Note for new arrivals: The 10K Day starts on the morning of Thursday, August 13. Your exact starting time is up to you.
WELCOME TO ALL those plucky writers who are participating today!
This is the place to post your check-ins.
If you develop a case of writer’s block—or if you need some extra ideas about what to write—you’ll find links to inspiring resources compiled below.
DON’T FORGET TO HAVE REGULAR BREAKS!
You’ll regret it later (when you’re feeling fried) if you don’t take regular breaks. Even if you’re on fire with your writing, take your scheduled breaks. Every two hours is recommended. Breaks are also for posting check-ins.
WHAT SHOULD YOU POST FOR YOUR CHECK-INS?
Comment moderation will be turned off for the day so your posts should appear right away. If you don’t see yours, try refreshing your screen.
Keep check-ins fairly brief:
1. You can mention your word count if you want to. If you’d rather not, please provide a general comment about your progress thus far.
2. You can also describe what you’re working on.
3. Feel free to mention how you’re feeling and how the day is going for you.
4. It’s always fun to hear what people are drinking, snacking on or listening to.
5. Check-ins only. Please DO NOT post your writing! (The comment section will become unwieldy if people try to post stories/chapters from their novel.)
DON’T FORGET TO log out of forums, Facebook, Twitter, email, etc.

A Writer Kissed by Inspiration
Hey fellow writers,
I am also out of steam. Just back from dinner and I am going to bed as I am up early for work.
Got three chapters done , just over 3,500 words. Well done people it has been a pleasure.
Night, night.
Everyone did an excellent job today! I've just been really tired today and this mornings mishaps just drained me I guess, but I have enjoyed reading everyone's progress.
Happy Writing!
I made it! 😀 I made an icon especially for the event, too, but I think it still needs some tweaking. LOL!
Anyway, my grand total is 10,187!
5,268 in From the Ashes (Zane Greywolf) and 4,919 in Sons of the Wild Frontier: Phoenix Rising.
I wasn't sure I could do it toward the end there, but I kept going, in spite of my tired wrists, and here I am with an awesome word count. Just goes to show that perseverance pays off! 🙂
It's been a great day. I'm glad everyone did well…high word counts or not! We all had fun and accomplished great things, regardless of how many words we put down. I'm proud of all of you! 😀
Lois
This is the first chance I've had to check in since 12:30 or so. It's also the first chance I've had to write.
School supply shopping and shoe buying, which I thought would take about 2 hours ended up taking 5! Then my creative juices were gone. Oh, and there was dinner that needed cooking and clothes that needed washing!
At any rate, I'm only up 300 words since my last check in, bringing me in at 3313 words. I know I'll never make 10,000. But the last time I wrote more than 2,000 in a day was six months ago, so I consider this a success. I'm going to go write a little more, and I'll update one last time before I go to bed.
My final check in. It's 11:58 here, and I'm calling it a night. I got another 900 words in, which puts me at a total of 4227. Not quite 10,000, but I'm happy with it. Thanks for the challenge!
