10K Day: Live, While It’s Happening! – November 14

Note for new arrivals: The 10K Day starts on the morning of Saturday, November 14. Your exact starting time is up to you.

“I Brake For Squirrels” (and 10K Day nuts)

“I Brake for Squirrels” (and 10K Day nuts)

WELCOME TO ALL those plucky writers who are participating today!

This is the place to post your check-ins.

To learn more about this event, check the special 10K Day section (see blog menu above). If you develop a case of writer’s block—or you need some extra ideas on what to write—you’ll find plenty of inspiring resources in the Write NOW! section.

DON’T FORGET TO TAKE REGULAR BREAKS!

You’ll regret it later (when you’re feeling fried) if you don’t take regular breaks. Even if you’re on fire with your writing, take your scheduled breaks.

Every two hours is recommended. Breaks are also for posting check-ins.

WHAT SHOULD YOU POST FOR YOUR CHECK-INS?

Comment moderation will be turned off for the day so your posts should appear right away. If you don’t see yours, try refreshing your screen.

Keep check-ins fairly brief:

1. You can mention your word count if you want to. If you’d rather not, please provide a general comment about your progress thus far.

2. You can also describe what you’re working on.

3. Feel free to mention how you’re feeling and how the day is going for you.

4. It’s always fun to hear what people are drinking, snacking on or listening to.

5. Check-ins only. Please DO NOT post your writing! (The comment section will become unwieldy if writers try to post stories/chapters from their novel.)

DON’T FORGET TO log out of forums, Facebook, Twitter, email, etc.

Wish I could join you tomorrow, but I’ll be on the road for a good part of the day. Still, I want to wish everyone lots of luck and good wishes! I’ll be rooting for y’all!

My day will be spent brainstorming. 🙂

I’m here. I have a couple of chores to do, and I’ll be back to get organized. Then I have to leave for a yoga class and some errands but I plan to devote the rest of the day to 10K. Milli, we have a surprise for you. The Chickie’s group are compiling our Fear of Writing prompts into a book. So I will be devoting my time on editing my prompts today to submit. And we want you to write the forward! Be back after chores.

Good Morning. It’s a lovely sunny day here in Y’town, OH. (Always a bonus at this time of year in this region.)

Peache, that’s so fun about the Chickie’s writing circle doing an anthology of FoW stories! I would love to write the foreword.

Lois, have a safe trip. 🙂

My shoulder, neck and lower back muscles have been screaming protest at being desk-bound. Went to the chiropractor yesterday so that was some relief. Another marathon at my desk would be counter-productive to healing, so I’m gonna take it easy today. But will probably do a spot of writing in the afternoon.

    Enjoy, ya’ll!

So. It’s a 10k day in the middle of nanowrimo…and I’m out helping mom do yard work (not this exact moment because I came in to check something), and then she needs me to run some errands with her! Later this afternoon I am so going to give this 10k challenge my best shot! I like 10k days anyway, and since it’s nano it will be a great boost to my word count, which is currently 24,300 as of yesterday afternoon.

Welcome, Rachel. Your NaNo word count sounds like you’re right on schedule for the 50K. I hope the 10K Day helps! Enjoy that yard work. It’s good for we writers to get some real body movement besides just typing like maniacs! 🙂

    Hello Everyone!

I’m here. I have to take the kids to rehearsal and the library. I plan to start writing early afternoon. (So, I have to get going.) 🙂

Happy writing and I can’t wait to get started. I have a nifty plan. Let’s see if I can hit 10k today…

Happy 10K Everyone! I completely forgot about it, but Saturday isn’t a big writing day for me anyway.

    Best of Luck!

    I forgot to say…

Milli, I hope your neck and shoulder feel better soon. You and Kevin are in the same boat–his left shoulder and neck are stiff and sore from the fall yesterday. We’re taking it easy today too–I am out of sympathy for you guys! 🙂

I have been brainstorming and outlining the ebook though.

    Lots of Hugs!

At about 2k… but it looks like I’m taking a break to go “Get Inspired”… so I won’t be back till later.

This is so different for me. I usually get at it first thing but the morning was filled with stuff. So here I am and ready to get down to it. I’ll check back in a couple of hours.

I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve cracked open my computer today! I’ve been working in a notebook, but today’s progress is slow thanks to a house full of kids and dinner guests. I’ll probably end up with just a couple thousand words by the time I hit the sack tonight, but it’s definitely better than nothing.

    Hope you heal quickly, Milli!

I’m at 2k. Time for dinner. I’ll jump back on in a couple of hours. I’m at 27k for NaNo. I would like to make it to at least 30k tonight. Wish me luck!

How are you Milli? I hope you’re feeling better.

I’m getting better; thanks for the good wishes. Lots of rest is helping. I did a little journaling this morning, but the rest of the day I’ve been lazy. 🙂

It’s good to be lazy. You’re a hard worker anyway. I have done 9, 362. Whew. Milli, I punched up my story on your prompt, Abracadabra. About the weather man. I finished it. I thought I would get at least 2 or 3 stories done today but that story hadn’t been finished so I had a lot more work on it than I realized but it’s good to have it done. I’m going to get something to eat. If I can I’ll try to come back and work on another one.

If I don’t get back. Good luck everyone and happy Thanksgiving!

Milli: I hope you’re relaxing day is…well…relaxing! LOL!

Marilyn: Way to go! You should have no problem reaching 10K!

Everyone else: Hope you’ve had a great day! Whether you make 10K or not, you tried, and that makes you a winner! 😀

My 10K Day will be tomorrow. I’ve reached the end of my Nanowrimo novel, but the main character has taken a backseat and his brother has taken center stage, so I’m in the process of adding backstory for him. I got some brainstorming in today while we were on the road and I’ll begin writing the new ideas tomorrow.

I forgot to check back in. I made it to about 5k. I worked on my NaNo book. I’m at nearly 28k. I hit an emotional patch for my characters. I was too tired to push though so I moved on to write a couple of proposals.

I’m proud of myself. I still haven’t hit 10k. 🙁 But I completed a lot of work and for that I’m happy.

Thanks Milli. Congrats to everyone. Have a wonderful night.

I let myself get clobbered with other things, so didn’t do but maybe a single k, if that.
