10K Day: Live, While It’s Happening! – January 14

“I Brake for Squirrels” (and 10K Day nuts)

WELCOME TO ALL those plucky writers who are participating today!

This is the place to post your check-ins.

To learn more about this event, check the special 10K Day section (see blog menu above). If you develop a case of writer’s block—or you need some extra ideas on what to write—you’ll find plenty of inspiring resources in the Write NOW! section.

DON’T FORGET TO TAKE REGULAR BREAKS!

You’ll regret it later (when you’re feeling fried) if you don’t take regular breaks. Even if you’re on fire with your writing, take your scheduled breaks.

Every two hours is recommended. Breaks are also for posting check-ins.

WHAT SHOULD YOU POST FOR YOUR CHECK-INS?

Comment moderation will be turned off for the day so your posts should appear right away. If you don’t see yours, try refreshing your screen.

Keep check-ins fairly brief:

1. You can mention your word count if you want to. If you’d rather not, please provide a general comment about your progress thus far.

2. You can also describe what you’re working on.

3. Feel free to mention how you’re feeling and how the day is going for you.

4. It’s always fun to hear what people are drinking, snacking on or listening to.

5. Check-ins only. Please DO NOT post your writing! (The comment section will become unwieldy if writers try to post stories/chapters from their novel.)

DON’T FORGET TO log out of forums, Facebook, Twitter, email, etc.

Hello everyone. I guess I’m first to check in today. It’s chilly and supposed to rain all day so I am expecting a lot of work today. I have a yoga class this morning so after that I should be rearing to go.

There are six of us working on a book. It is a collaborative effort of short stories. We are all part of Milli’s writing group in the Texas Hill Country. Several stories are from prompts in Milli’s book, Fear Of Writing. There are some other stories as well like excerpts from my Mikey Dog book. So that is what I am working on today. Editing and punching up existing stories.

I also have to write a bio and a few words on why I like to write. So I may not get to 10K but if I get most of the stories edited and ready to submit I’ll be happy.

    Good luck every one.

    Peache

Excited to work today. Finally finished my screenplay last night and can finally work on getting this short film happening.

Feels good to have an awakening every now and again.

Lets see if I can’t blow through this thing in a day.

I’m getting a late start today, but I’m about to begin. I’ll be working on my character journals, so I’m looking forward to it very much! 🙂

Starting point: halfway through T.C. chapter 5.
Today’s mission: get through chapter 6.
    Estimated words needed: 3500.
    Off I go!

Brain is “eh” but I’m starting now anyway! Continuing where I left off on my own 10k day last Thursday. Let’s see what happens!

Don’t know if I’ll meet goal today, but just finished a spicy and seductive scene that was a lot of fun to write.

It’s going pretty well. That’s all I can say.

Not as much as I’d hoped, but got about 1500 done before getting my son from school. I’m going to try and sneak more in later. Harder to get writing time in while son and/or husband is home, but I’m excited enough about this next chapter to make the effort.

I’m not getting as much done as I’d hope either. I’ve only corrected about 850 words but I am making some progress. I keep re-editing and re-editing. It seems I could go on doing that forever.

Today ended up being a bust for me. Boo. Darn real life getting in the way. Next time…

I did it! 😀 I reached 10K. Actually, I surpassed it. I was writing lots of character journal entries, then I started a story starring one of my newest characters, and the writing just took off. I’m sitting at 11,006 words!

To those still writing: Keep going! You can do it! 😀

Now I’ve got to go post those character journal entries, then hit the sack. 🙂

well, it wasn’t pretty, but I hit 4500. It’s all in preperation for my own 10k tomorrow. That’s right, 4500 words of outlining/prompting 🙂 I wrote an entire detailed timeline of my novel, so now it shouldn’t take quite so long for me to get started on 10k days 😀

Really, it’s quite a bit of pressure off my shoulders to have it all down on paper now, like now I actually KNOW that there is a beginning, a middle, and most importantly an END to this thing. Yay for closure!

Hope all had a productive day– my word count didn’t hit goal, but my spirits and organization did. That’s a win in my book.
