WELCOME TO ALL those plucky writers who are participating this week!

This is the place to post your check-ins for Wed., June 22 and/or Saturday, June 25.

To learn more about this event, check the 10K Day section (see blog menu above).

Every two hours is recommended. Breaks are also for posting check-ins.

TIP: If you don’t see your comment right away after posting, try refreshing your screen.

1. You can mention your word count if you want to. If you’d rather not, please provide a general comment about your progress thus far.

2. You can also describe what you’re working on.

3. Feel free to mention how you’re feeling and how the day is going for you.

4. It’s always fun to hear what people are drinking, snacking on or listening to.

    ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

I’m dedicating this month’s 10K Days to one of our regulars, Kate Marillat (@BeWriteOn) of the UK. Kate recently became a mom. On June 8 she tweeted, “Kieran David Patrick Harris swam into this world on 6/6 at 22:47 GMT.” In another tweet, she said, “Amazing what the body can do—home birth using nothing but a water pool, hypnobirthing and EFT. I am woman.”

    Congratulations, Kate!

Also, I encourage you to check out our Healthy Writers Series. We always publish the latest Healthy Writers post right before the 10K Days to give you extra incentive to take care of yourself while you write. This month we have 10K Day regulars, Lois Eighmy and Catherine Greti, bringing you inspiration both visual and written:

      Kate ~

Congratulations on your healthy birth of Kieran!! Years age I attended at two water births of my friend…it’s an awesome experience!!

      Well done!

Congratulations Kate! You are definitely WOMAN!

I’ve been piddling around with EFT. Maybe I should dig a bit deeper into it. 😉

And on a similar note, due to womanhood (bleh!) I doubt I will be participating today. I wanted to age like fine wine, but I think I must have gotten bad grapes. LOL.

    Best of luck to everyone!

EFT kicks it. LOVE it. Most amazing technique I’ve ever used–also love NLP. Keep at the EFT–it will take you where you need to go.

        Thanks Patti,

I like the way you spell your name. 🙂

I will keep at EFT. I’m also taking a certification for NLP, but haven’t worked on it in a few weeks. I’ve been doing more website work lately, but need to get back on MY track.

If you have a good resource for EFT, please share. 🙂

I’ve procrastinated enough. I’m up and staggering. Spent the last two nights on our boat, trying to get away from reality. Now I’m back, sorta.

    By the way, what’s PLR?

I’m here sipping some coffee before I start. Caught up on my sleep last night – and also the muggy weather got relieved by some cool rain. I’ve got lots of good stuff to work on – some journaling first and then some new stories for Milliver’s Travels. So conditions are ripe to have a good experience today. 🙂

Wellllll, I’m getting started over 3 hours later than I planned (snooze button be damned!) – but I’m trying to (rock and) roll with it.

I’m preparing our first espresso, the sun is coming up over the trees, soon to explode on all our southeastern windows but it looks like the 90+ degree heat wave might have passed. So I may not have to spend extra time with fans and making everything in the house dark. I’m crossing my fingers – I have a lot planned for my 10K day.

See you all later and good writing day to everyone!

Lois – You’ve just reminded me – I’ve got a small French press I could use to make iced coffee. I’m suspecting that’s how you made yours?

          • Lois
            June 22, 2011 | 12:28 PM

            Yes! 🙂

I have a large one and a small one. I used the large one and used about 3/4 cup of coffee and 3 cups of water. Just remember to use the 4:1 ratio, and you’re good to go.

I usually brew mine for about 12 hours, but you can do it in as little as 3-4.

The mixture is 2-3 times stronger than you’ll want to drink it, so dilute it with an equal amount of water to start. You can add more if you need to…and ice!

You can add cream or sugar, too, but I don’t usually add cream, and I never sweeten it. 🙂

            Enjoy! 😀

Lois – Thanks for tips on how to do it in the French press. And, I’m sorry, but I gotta drink it like the Aussies do, with milk or half-and-half, whipped cream and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Needless to say, I probably won’t make it very often. ;~)

                June 22, 2011 | 12:40 PM

LOL! I was just telling you how I drink it. 😉 I’ve heard you can even heat it up and drink it like regular coffee. It has less oils and acid than hot brewed coffee. 🙂

Got my journaling done, gave some feedback on an assignment and did my hostess comments.

(I reckon I get to count my replies as the FoW lady on the check-in page as part of my 10K words. I tried skipping that for a few months – to see if being more selfish about my own 10K time was a good thing – but attendance dropped off, so I’m happy to continue as hostess. :))

Checking in – with my green food smoothie at my side (for energy). But lest I give the impression that I’m a healthy writer (Milli – if you start an Unhealthy Writer section I’ll be your first guest poster – grin), I have a mocha latte next to the green food smoothie.

Kinda excited, but also kinda overwhelmed – I’m looking through 50 past Square-Peg interviews for material/categories in the project I’m working on…50 is a lot (just sayin).

I’m glad you’re hostessing, Milli – it adds to the accountability for me somehow…

LOL! Don’t worry, no matter how many healthy posts we do espousing salads and whatnot, COFFEE WILL STILL BE KING. So you fit right in with your green food smoothie on the left and your mocha latte on the right. Perfecto.

50 does sounds like a lot! But good, juicy material to be overwhelmed by. I know it will fall into place for you. You just need time to digest. . . .

Thanks for what you said about the accountability. It helps me to know that my hostess comments do make a difference. 🙂

    June 22, 2011 | 12:17 PM

I’m here, though late. I’ve been, and still continue to, character journal with a friend. Our characters are commenting on each other’s entries and comments, and it is FUN! And I’ve got ideas for a new story, thanks to this, so I feel no guilt nor shame over it. 😉

That said, I have a summary to outline. I’ll be adding details, details, details! I might have to make some changes, as I’m waiting on input from a reader, but we shall see.

And I need to brainstorm ideas for this newest story (the one that’s a result of the character journaling with a friend).

I’m currently drinking unsweetened sun tea with the juice from three lime slices in it. Yummy. When I finish for the day, I’ll reward myself with a decaf breve (thanks for the post about this little bit o’ heaven, Milli)!

Oh! And I made that fruit salad again this week, only instead of grapes and oranges, I used fresh pineapple and coconut. The only things missing were mango and kiwi. Maybe next time. It was delish, anyway. 😀

Anyway, my goal for today isn’t to reach 10K, but rather to get as much work done as I can on the outline and the brainstorm, with character journaling thrown into the mix. 🙂

    Good luck, everyone!

Lois, what a fun and interesting update. Your character journaling buddy and you doing cross-pollination of ideas and comments does sound like a blast. And your plans for today sound meaty! (and salady ;))

OK, now you’ve got my coffee ears pricked up. Are you referring to my post on Milliver’s Travels called Espresso: The Art of the Perfect Breve? And did you try a breve because of what I wrote? If yes, I beg you to please leave a comment and spill the beans. Yea to all of us! And thanks for the iced tea idea, Vicki – coz what’s better than coffee on a humid day??? Answer: Iced coffee (which is Queen, if you’re ok with that, M! I prefer Queen to King, but whichever…just so long as coffee is treated like the royalty it is!).

Not sure of my word count, but I got a lot straightened out category wise in the project I was working on. And now am going to work on rewriting Square-Pegs About page (not more than a couple years overdue – sigh) — and, who knows? — if I’ve got energy and time enough later I may still play with some fiction like I threatened.

Don’t know what my word count is so far but I just posted a new story on Milliver’s Travels that I had a blast writing, all about the time I got to swim with dolphins.

I’m making the move to monetize my blog and start to be a real, paid travel writer, so I’d appreciate any comments that folks have time to leave. I’m hoping to become an affiliate for a program that includes the dolphin park I just wrote about – and lots of comments will help convince them that Milliver’s is a happenin’ thang.

Checking in to check out, I think. I’m still messing with words (and loving it) – had a little break in there talking w/my son (while tossing some vegetarian chilli together) but I’ve been writing most of the day…

going to go back to it for 15 min, but then must stop because the Phillies will be on tv – and I can’t miss my baseball!!!

So glad to see everyone’s check-ins – I love having this space. Thanks so much, Milli!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy the ballgame, Karen. And the chili. And you’re very welcome. I feel honored by having so many great regulars who love the 10K Days. To think it all started because I didn’t have a buddy for a 10K Day I wanted to do a few years back, so I decided to put it on the blog to see if anyone would show up and write with me. 😀 😀

I finished writing another story for Milliver’s. That’s only two stories for the day but I’m extremely happy and satisfied.

I’m starting to get dozy or woozy or something like that. Yeah, the words are starting to slur inside my head. I was going to write a third story, but I think I’m going to cheat and format a guest blogger submission instead.

    And then Zzzzz…..

I’m a little late getting back here, but I wanted to thank you, Milli, for hosting another great 10k day. I was able to finish a piece for Milliver’s Travels, and draft the next one; complete an essay for a writers site; work on a collection of personal essays and write about – what else? – LOVE for Zebra Sounds.

    Love the 10k days!

    Good morning all!

It’s 7:10am CDT here in Arkansas’ River Valley area. I’ve been up since oh, 5:30 I believe. Had to get out early to start watering the garden. Whew!

At the moment, I’m sitting in my office with my Curious cat growling at our new kitten, Squeaker. She’s 8 1/2 and he’s 10wks old. They’ve actually started getting along better but he’s chased her in here in a corner and it didn’t go over well. Ah, youngsters. 🙂

I think my strategy for the day will be to work on drafting a few blog posts and/or working on a literature lesson plan project. Not sure on that one; will just have to see how the day goes.

Here’s to everyone having a fun and productive day! I’ll check back in around 9am CDT. Enjoy! 🙂

Glad to see everyone is having a fabulous day! Woot! Woot!

My morning has started slow, but I think I’m starting to get some momentum going. I’m at 1287 so far.

I started by turning my brainstorming into a list of topics in one document so I can just scroll up and down and follow the inspiration. Then I flipped a little farther into the notebook and filled in some details that I’d scribbled down over the last week or so.

Right now I’m working on a draft of a post about developing a daily checklist of delight and a daily checklist of doom.

Must check out this cool timer!

All righty then! I finished what I could on the conference stuff–now it’s just wait to see how it goes over with the rest of the crowd and if I can fill all the panels and such by September! Lol 😉

Now I’m off to work on my contest entries. Hopefully I can pull together something for all eight categories. Wouldn’t that be awesome??

Chat to y’all later–and Milli–I’ve got chocolate for everyone! *Flings Chocolate Kisses to Everyone*
