WELCOME TO ALL those plucky writers who are participating this week!
This is the place to post your check-ins for Wed, October 19 and/or Saturday, Oct. 22.
To learn more about this event, check the 10K Day section (see blog menu above).
If you’re participating from overseas, feel free to start whenever you’re ready. This check-in page is posted the evening before the event so you can. 🙂
DON’T FORGET TO TAKE REGULAR BREAKS!
You’ll regret it later (when you’re feeling fried) if you don’t take regular breaks. Even if you’re on fire with your writing, take your scheduled breaks.
Every two hours is recommended. Breaks are also for posting check-ins.
WHAT SHOULD YOU POST FOR YOUR CHECK-INS?
TIP: If you don’t see your comment right away after posting, try refreshing your screen.
1. You can mention your word count if you want to. If you’d rather not, please provide a general comment about your progress thus far.
2. You can also describe what you’re working on.
3. Feel free to mention how you’re feeling and how the day is going for you.
4. It’s always fun to hear what people are drinking, snacking on or listening to.
DON’T FORGET TO log out of forums, Facebook, Twitter, email, etc.

What I Learned from My First 10K Day by 10K participant Taryn Blake

It’s 10 am here. Feeling tired today but hopefully I can get some good writing done.
Trying to find a comfortable position in my chair, and I’ll start with 750words.com to get me started.
More later!
Happy creative writing day, all!!
Ok it’s 12pm now. I have been feeling pretty scattered so far this morning. Plenty of things to think about apart from writing. At last I managed to get to the piece I wanted to work on. I am working on the characters of the story I am writing to create a comic book scenario. During the last 10k days I did, I had written quite a bit of that story, but realized since then that there is something missing in it, some depth I will only manage to create if my characters are more consistent. So I am working on characterization today, and will then start on the story again.
I have over 500 words so far. Not much, but I need a break.
Did anyone else start already?

Hi Armelle,
Your challenge today sounds fascinating. I’ll be interested to hear how it pans out.
~ Milli
So far 1800 words.
Working on the 3 main characters so far helped me really add some depth to my story. My characters are leading it much more, and I can let go of the control I was trying to have to create the story. It is creating itself!!
I’ll continue for a bit now and then will take a break.
Twitter: fearofwriting
AWESOME!!! That’s a great result, Armelle.
Ok almost 2500 words. Will take a bath now. Then will probably have the whole evening routine kick in, making something to eat, taking care of the little one until she’s in bed and such. I’ll try to continue a bit later on in the evening. Would love to get to 5000 words!!
Twitter: fearofwriting
See you later on, Armelle. I hope you make your goal of 5K. But you’ve done splendidly already. Enjoy your evening routine with the little one. 🙂
I am back. The little one is in bed, so back in front of the computer… will give it another 2 hours before winding down. I am feeling tired at the moment, so need to rest properly.
All the best to you all! Will post one last time with the final word count before calling it a day!
OK too tired to continue. I wrote over 3200 words so I am happy with my day.
I even managed to get unstuck at a point where I didn’t know where to take my story. I know something had to happen to my character, but didn’t know if it was going to be an internal or external event, and how to shift her gently away from her grief. Now I have a direction, I’ll continue tomorrow and see where it will take me.
Oh and i have been listening to George Winston’s CDs while writing, and it was GREAT!! Really helped me focus.
So nighty night all, have a great time writing!!

Slightly miffed, I’ve ended up with a ton of meetings today, but that also means a lot of travel so hoping to do some scribbling in my notebook, the novel’s been quite active in my mind the last couple of days.
With any luck will be home and fed by 8pm then I can join you folks for a couple of hours of solid writing.
Good luck to everybody.
Lets kick word-arse!

Jo, best of luck with your writing as you travel between meetings. Looking forward to having you join us this evening your time.
xo
Good morning! Got up late, it’s almost 1pm here. On to writing now, don’t have much time today. Let’s see what I can get done 😀
Much success to everyone!
All the best Lisa!!
Sometimes a short time is enough to get lots done!!
Twitter: fearofwriting
*raises coffee mug* And much success to you, Lisa.
I agree with Armelle. Sometimes having only a short time in which to work can pull more out of you. Hope that works for you.

Good Morning! Breakfast is done, got coffee and my list all ready to go and looking forward to a very productive day. 🙂
Hope you have an amazing day too!
Wow sounds like you are all set to break walls!! Happy writing!!
Twitter: fearofwriting
Greetings, Helena. Good luck with your list and Happy Writing. 🙂

Thanks Armelle and Milli 🙂
Got my first article of the day done… 997 words. I’m pretty pleased because that’s the first thing I’ve written before noon in about a month! LOL Gonna try for one more before lunch.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Terrific!! I’m not highly productive before noon either – I do much better in the afternoon and evening – so I’m impressed. 😀

Roughly 7:25 am and 40 degrees here in the beautiful Ozark mountains. I’m not quite ready to start my writing day, but getting myself geared up for it.
I have a relatively short list to work on today, although since it’s Wednesday it is longer than most days.
Best of luck to everyone!
Twitter: fearofwriting
Pattikins, glad you’re here and good luck with your list. And Brrr to that 40 degrees!! Stay warm.
xo

Hello Miss Patti!
Nice to see you made it. 🙂 It’s pretty chilly here this morning too. I’ve still got the windows open but I don’t think that’ll last much longer.
Good luck getting everything on your list done. 🙂
Twitter: pattistafford
Hey Lena!
I’ve actually turned the heat on. Which is strange for me this early in the year, but where’s a dang hot flash when you need them? LOL
Twitter: helenaritchie
I finally shut the window .. my toes were gettin’ cold. But we haven’t taken the air conditioner out yet. LOL My son says I’m a freak … I rarely get cold unless I’m sick. The last few years it’s been so bad that we don’t even turn the heat on until the temps hit -30C or so because up until then I usually want the windows open unless they’re frozen shut. 🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
Getting a late start but that’s OK since I’ll probably work late as well.
I’m going to start with coffee and journaling. And then switch over to my screenplay.
Yay!! Nice to have you with us!!
All the best, and enjoy your coffee!! 🙂
Twitter: pattistafford
Slow morning here. Maybe it’s the drop in temperature.
I feel like a snail, which reminds me of the image that Kevin posted to FB over the weekend. It’s a snail on the back of a turtle, and the snail is saying, “Slow Down! You’re going to get us killed!” LOL. Too cute and funny.
But it’s still early in the day. I have been working, just can’t seem to hit my groove and go with it.
Twitter: fearofwriting
That’s so cute about the snail and the tortoise!
xo
My only plan for today (now that I’ve caught up with everything else) is to research and write the first draft of an article.
But first, I need to make some hot cocoa and grab my bowl of leftover chili. 🙂
Good luck, y’all! 😀
Lois
Twitter: fearofwriting
Good to see you, Lois. Hope your research is fun. 🙂
Thanks, Milli. Research is ALWAYS fun. 🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
Journaling is done and so is breakfast. Can’t wait to open my script and get started. 😀
Twitter: pattistafford
Most of my list is done. I’m going to take a nice break and finish it up this evening.
Hope everyone is making good progress! 🙂

I’ve been working on the second rewrite for my screenplay and it’s slow going so far. Think I’ll break for some lunch now.
~ Milli
Twitter: helenaritchie
I’m starting to slow down a bit. I got my second done before lunch, and one short blog post afterwards so I’m up around 1800 words. I think I’ll make some tea and have a rest for an hour and then get back at it.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Still slogging away. It’s a rewrite, so no word count. Taking a coffee break now.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Taking another break for a while, just to read a book and rest my brain.
Anybody else still here?
~ Milli
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Got here eventually! Been an all over the place day today but finally got a new blog post up which was 785 countable words. Besides that I’ve got 4 pages of fragments in my notebook and a few more scribbles on my wall, so been a little bit productive.
Tomorrow I’ve got nothing planned so really want to get some more done.
Well done for today everyone.
x
Twitter: fearofwriting
Jo, glad you made it back and that sounds like great progress for a day that was otherwise full of meetings.
I’m still here working on my script if you still need a writing buddy. I’ll be here for about another three hours. . . .
Can’t wait to read your post about the story wall. 🙂
~ Milli
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Wish I could keep you company Milli, but it’s 2am and I’m really flagging. Got a couple more scribbles to do, maybe that’ll pep me on a bit, we’ll see.
Good luck with the script, hope it’s still going well.
x
Twitter: fearofwriting
Oh, that’s right. Five hours ahead. Get some sleep, Jo. 🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
With a few more breaks, I worked till eleven and got half-way through the second rewrite on my screenplay.
I’m pooped. See you on Saturday.
Twitter: hkwong
Today turned out to be much less of a writing opportunity than expected. =\
Instead, I did reading to prep for my short paper (due tomorrow, yay..). Sigh!
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Morning folks!
I’m going to be in and out today, got three severed heads to make for my next show so will be trying to write between layers of blood and gore.
Got a couple of writery bits-and-bobs to be getting on with, so here’s to a productive day for everyone!
x
Twitter: fearofwriting
‘Morning, Jo. (arvo your time)
Looks like it’s just you and me so far. Hope your bits-and-bobs are progressing nicely. And good luck with those severed heads! 😀
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Still just us??? Where is everybody?
Got some more fragments done, trying to work my way through a couple of gaps in my novel, it’s interesting cos there’s new subplots popping up that I didn’t know were there before.
How’s the script coming along?
x
Twitter: fearofwriting
For some reason, Saturdays are not as popular as Wednesdays. I would’ve thought *more* people would show up on a Sat, because of Wed being a work day for a lot of folks, but not so.
Good to hear you’ve got new subplots popping up. That must feel good!
I’ve only been into it for about an hour so not much progress yet. But the smaller details are coming along well. Plus, I just got an email back from an expert on a point of research, so that was an exciting moment.
OK, back to the salt mines. ~ M
Twitter: fearofwriting
Starting late, as usual. I’m not one of those whatchamacallits (morning persons). 😉
So, it’ll be my usual routine. Wake up slowly with coffee and journaling. Then switch to the computer to work on my script. . . .
Cheers ~ Milli
Twitter: fearofwriting
I don’t have a word count (because it was a rewrite) but I worked for 11 hours on my script today and finished the second rewrite. Hooray!!
~ Milli
I found your post today, and I think you guys are done with your writing. How sad, I wasn’t able to give it a try.
Twitter: fearofwriting
