If you’re participating from overseas, feel free to start whenever you’re ready. This check-in page is posted the evening before the event so you can. 🙂

Every two hours is recommended. Breaks are also for posting check-ins.
WHAT SHOULD YOU POST FOR YOUR CHECK-INS?

FUN 10K DAY READING
(opens in a new browser window so you won’t lose your place)
Good morning everyone!
Wow this is harder than I thought. It’s 8 am and I’m sitting here trying to motivate myself to write. I’d really rather just click that tempting little Skyrim icon and game away the day.
But I’ll visit my Mum next week because she has hand surgery and I’m taking care of her. I won’t get much done then and I *really* need those two writing days now.
And there it is, my reason why: my Mum, who always supported me and whom I want to be able to support in return. Every time I think of that motivation isn’t that much of an issure anymore and I’m ready to get some work done.
My goal for today is 5.000 words. After that I’m free to rejoin the virtual reality. Until then it’s coffee and wordsmithing instead of dragonhunting and blacksmithing LOL
P.S. Milli you were right, venting helps for motivation 😀 Thanks!
Twitter: fearofwriting
Lisa,
What a lovely (and honest) first check-in and thank you for sharing that about your mom. It was the same with my mom – she died a few months before my book got published, but she knew I was writing it so that was rewarding.
I’m glad the venting helped and I hope your wordsmithing is humming along so far.
~ Milli
Since I won’t be home on Saturday, decided to do my 10K day today (which really only equals with a couple of hours in the morning and another couple of hours after i get home tonight). But the important thing is the actual writing, so I won’t be too hard on myself just this once 🙂
So far, I finished (well, mainly rewrote and added to an older version of) an article for MT which I’m letting sit for a couple of minutes before re-reading and sending it to Milli.
Meanwhile I wrote up some news for the NewsFlash and am thinking of what to blog about since I noticed I have nothing at the ready like I usually do.
Happy writing to everyone!
PS: Funny how washing my hair doesn’t seem as important (even if it doesn’t need to be washed) unless I’m procrastinating 😛
Twitter: fearofwriting
Estrella,
Thanks very much for the MT submission. 🙂 I’ll have a look at that once I’ve woken up properly, had breakfast and done my first bit of writing for the day.
That’s cute about the urgency of hairwashing being in proportion to the need to procrastinate. 😉
~ Milli
Thank You, Milli, I arrived home to your e-mail telling me you liked it – so now I’m all excited about that!
And yes, that’s always the case for me with the hairwashing and/or stuff piling on my desk that I need to get to later 😛
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Morning!
Having a lazy start to the day now that I’ve bombarded Facebook with the link to my new MT article.
Rather than writing anything new today I think I’m going to step back and rewrite a story I wrote a couple of years back, it’s got a bit of growing up to do and I want to get it good enough to go up on my blog.
Speaking of blogs, I’m going to be having a bit of a poke around at WordPress today, I’m considering emigrating from Blogger, partly because Jeff Goins and Kristen Lamb told me to, and partly because I now know I don’t have to leave the content I’ve got behind.
Here’s to a productive day for everyone.
Lets kick word-arse! 🙂

Twitter: fearofwriting
Jo –
Thanks for the wonderful story for Milliver’s Travels and for plastering it all over Facebook. 🙂
Reworking an old story sounds like a great plan and I hope that will prove enjoyable.
xo
I also use wordpress and will tell you the same, migrate over, it’s great 🙂
Hope the rewrite is flowing well!
My writing hours went well so far, NewsFlash done, article done and sent, plus I even have a shiny new blog post up to show for it 😉
Now comes the part where I sort of have to go earn a living… so catch you all later.
Hope you have a productive 10k day!
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Nicely done Estrella, look forward to seeing your post.
Hope work isn’t too boring.
Thanks.
And oh, no worries, Milli:
I babysit a little girl who never ever shuts up, nor stops moving – never a dull moment when I’m with her 😉
And by “Milli” I meant “Jo” of course 😉
Twitter: fearofwriting
Estrella, congrats on getting so much done before you have to show up for your job!
😀
Thanks 🙂
Now I just got some e-mails out of the way, and am planning to work on/come up with some new blog posts for the following weeks.
PS: I’ve been eating a banana for the past hour, that’s my level of procrastination right now.
Hi all!
I started almost an hour ago, at 2pm here. I had stuff to do so couldn’t start earlier this morning. Working away on my NaNo, with the NaNo chat on the side. That helps. Regular word wars help too.
So far wrote a bit less than 400 words, so I need to shift gears and go a bit faster. I am about 10000 words late on my NaNo novel so it would be great if I write them today. But even if it is 5000 it would be great !
Good luck to all, and have a very creative day!
Twitter: fearofwriting
Armelle,
Best of luck catching up on those NaNoWriMo words. Hope your day feels creative so far.

‘Morning, all,
Had insomnia, woke up late, usual story. 🙂
I’m about to have some eggs and toast and coffee and then sit on the couch for some journaling. After that I’ll fire up the main computer and start working on an online course I’m writing.
Happy writing everyone.
~ Milli
I’m here, and it’s actually before ten o’clock (CST)! 😉
I’m going to proofread what I wrote yesterday (all 7K+) and add some stuff to it, then I’ll get down to writing the next chapter. I can’t wait to get started! 😀
No food right now, but I’ve got a nice tall bottle of Ozarka water. I’m also currently listening to my Lucky & Dakota playlist. Current song: “Broken Road,” by 12 Stones.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Hi Lois 😀
Your plan sounds wonderful. Rock on!
~ Milli
Thanks, Milli! 🙂
I just added almost 1K words while I was proofreading. I’m about to move on to the next chapter. YAY! 😀
Twitter: fearofwriting
Congrats on the bonus 1K, Lois!!
Thanks, Milli! 😀
I’m taking a break for lunch now (New England Clam Chowder, plain corn chips with salsa, water), but I’ve added over 2,400 more words. Woohoo!
Twitter: pattistafford
I think I’m here. It’s been a slow morning. Kevin said I didn’t sleep well and tossed all night. I guess he was right because I do feel sluggish today. And there’s that girl thing headache.
I may just wish everyone luck today and not worry too much about what I get done…or don’t. LOL
I’m listening to The Schumann Resonance album with brainwave entrainment, but it may take my usual Iron Maiden to get me motivated. 😉
Hope everyone has an awesome day!
Twitter: fearofwriting
Pattikins, Glad you joined us, even if just to say Hello, and I hope you feel better soon. Maybe some rest is what you really need, and you can do a little visualization exercise that shows you writing with the rest of us. So you’ll still get some writing done, only in the ethers. Then you can go retrieve it later and let it write itself. 😉
Love Ya ~ Milli
Twitter: pattistafford
Thanks Millikins!
I’ve actually gotten some work done. And get this, I’ve been using work time for work. What a concept huh? LOL
I’ve had itchy, watery eyes for three weeks now and the laptop just kills me, so I spend the day on the big desktop working and then the evenings on the couch in front of the big TV with season two of Stargate SG-1, so lots of relaxing time too. 😉
Big Hugs!
Patti

I’m running late. I went to the kitchen to grab a cup of coffee for my work ahead and realized…no coffee! It’s brewing. My notes are here. I’m ready. 🙂
I’m about to brew myself some decaf. 🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
I saw the Ja’Nese tweet about the coffee. That girl is hilarious! But, I agree. One cannot have a 10K Day without coffee. I’m glad you got that one sorted out. Now, good luck with that W word.
xo
Twitter: danapittman
Coffee is a must! 🙂 Now for my sad, sad, oh so sad, update. I sat to write and realized I didn’t work this story out enough. I have the big picture clear but I needed a few more details to get moving.
Sad part: Two word added to my story (i.e., the Subtitle). ROFL!
Wonderful part: This story is really really awesome. I’m so excited.
Now, back to work I go. I am actively working on my story. So, I’m am being a success (with two words written…).
🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
You are so funny, woman. And I’m so proud of you for writing those two words!! 😀
So pleased to hear you’re excited about your story. Ain’t that half the battle?
xo
Twitter: danapittman
Thank you. That means a lot coming from my writing shero. (You and super woman Lois…where she at?) [Yes, I speak very colorfully when I’m stuck at a computer all day.]
Yes…that’s what people say when you’ve accumulated a massive word count like I have today. (**wink, wink**)
My kids think I’m hilarious because my son finished NaNoWriMo in less than two weeks (9k words).
However, I feel like I’m exercising my superpowers of creativity today. And that is what 10k days are for me. I’d like the 10k but I’ll take the dedicated writing time and the infusion of creative power any day of the week.
Thank you very much. 😉
Twitter: fearofwriting
“I’d like the 10k but I’ll take the dedicated writing time and the infusion of creative power any day of the week.”
I couldn’t agree more. Well said, JD.
Oh, wait, you’re posting as DP. Dang, but I can’t keep those two girls straight in my mind. (*wink*)
Twitter: danapittman
You know I have split personalities. 🙂 I finished about 2k in plotting work including on a graphic plot for a book series. Yeah! So to you My Milli and Dear Lois you both are the best. Everyone else you all are wonderful. I am now trying to squeeze in a few hours Saturday. Night.
Dana, you rock! 🙂 Keep up the awesome work!
Twitter: danapittman
awww…thank you. But I feel like we are turning into those “interesting” people that say:
“you’re cool”
“oh no you’re cool”
“you’re cooler than cool”
“I’m only cool because you’re cool”
**wink, wink**
ROFL.
What’s wrong with that? LOL
I’m here! About to call it a night, though. And you know what I think. Any progress is good progress–especially if you’re excited about the story. Keep at it, and good luck! 🙂
1.300 words and then a headache hit. Well, at least I got some of it done, I’ll finish the rest tomorrow. Still hope it gets better, but probably won’t. Doesn’t matter, it was fun and I’ll write more next time 🙂
My favorite home remedy for headaches: coffee with juice of half a lemon. Disgusting but it works most of the time =)
Have a great writing day everyone!
Twitter: fearofwriting
Hey, Lisa, congrats on the 1300 words! That’s awesome and I was especially glad to hear you say it was fun.
Sorry about the headache. I know how that goes. But the remedy sounds fascinating! I’ve never heard of that one before. I think I’ll try that myself next time.
~ Milli
P.S. Feel free to come back to this page tomorrow and post your updates if you end up finishing your 10K Day tomorrow. Would love to hear from you!
Twitter: fearofwriting
Well, I’m a little embarrassed to give this update – but I need to walk my talk. I know if someone else reported this, I would cheer them and encourage them onwards. So, here goes.
Apart from the journaling I did this morning (I didn’t try to count those scribbled words), so far I’ve written 163 new words for my project.
My project is an online course that I started writing in 2008. So I guess it’s pretty awesome that I even dragged it out of the cobwebs. Spent most of my time so far formatting what I’d already written in 2008 in Moodle (my course software) and rereading it so I can get back in the groove. Now it’s time for a break and then I’ll attack a new section. Good thing I wrote a Table of Contents back in 2008 or I might never remember what I wanted this course to consist of. 😉
~ Milli
At least you’re working on something writing related, and you’ve made progress! Keep going, Milli. You’re doing great! 😀
Milli, just don’t be too hard on yourself.
It’s a great thing you ended up writing anything at all after the insomnia, and polishing, adding to stuff is hard. I mean it’s hard for me to add to things I’ve jotted down a couple of months or weeks ago, I can’t even imagine working on something from years ago.
After being so cheerful and productive this morning, I ended up being all mellow (not entirely my fault though, it was freezing outside and the warmth in my room basically turned my brain into mush) and procrastinating through the evening with no actual results aside from commenting on blogs, e-mailing and you know, things that kept me from writing what I thought I was supposed to be writing.
Time to go edit some photos to upload and share with you, then I’ll go read my book.
What I’m trying to say with all of this is: don’t worry and stay positive. The words will come when you least expect it and yank you from something else you’re doing in no time!
Much love, hope you have an amazing rest of your day! *hugs*
Twitter: fearofwriting
I love the sound of your cozy warm room and no wonder it made you too mellow to write. 🙂 Especially after a day of babysitting. But thanks for coming back to update us. I think you did really well this morning, considering it was a work day for you (and considering that the little one you look after is a dynamo of energy :)).
Hugs backatcha! ~ Milli
Yes, I try and keep in mind that considering everything else that was going on yesterday, I did really well.
Thanks 🙂
I’m now at 4,310 words. I have 1,605 words left to reach 45K. I can do it. Yes, I can! But my arm’s getting a bit achey. I’ll see what I can get written in a half hour, then take a shower. After that, I’ll write whatever’s left to reach my goal, then I’ll call it a night.
And I’m finally having that decaf I mentioned a while ago! 😛
Twitter: fearofwriting
Awesome word count, Lois.
🙂 🙂
Thanks! And I’ve now surpassed my goal for the day!!! 😀
Twitter: fearofwriting
I’ve made it to 2492 words and now I’m really warming to the task, despite getting such a late start. Making great progress with setting out the online course as well as getting new sections written.
I got so into it, I forgot to take my coffee break. I’m off to make a cuppa. And then dive back in.
~ Milli
So glad to read this (yeah, I see now that I should’ve refreshed the page before commenting) 😉
You go girl! *more hugs*
Twitter: fearofwriting
Estrella, I’m glad you didn’t refresh the screen first because then you might not have written as many lovely things to me. I spend a lot of time expressing support to other writers and I don’t always remember to ask for it myself. It was really sweet of you to read my looong update and write those words of encouragement. <3
xoxo
P.S. I'm up to 4,167 and still going strong. Not bad for only getting started around 2 p.m. 🙂
I’m sure I would’ve written the same amount of lovely things (I like you, remember? :P), it is good to be on the giving end of advices and encouragement.
And finally: Wow, that’s some achievement, Milli, well done!
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Nice work Milli, still going strong or ready to give yourself a break? Very impressed that you’re picking up a project from so long ago, I’m not surprised it took you a little while to get back into it earlier, but as we all know progress is progress, no matter how small 🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
Thanks, Jo. Yep, still going strong. I’m on 5,134 at the mo. Don’t want to perpetuate my insomnia from last night by working too late, so I might just do a few more sections and call it quits.
Well, I did just a bit less than 4000 words today. I am a bit disappointed that I didn’t write a bit more, but I am exhausted and need to rest.
Have gone up to 19500 words on my Nano. So I am still late, but less, and, well, it’s better to stop now because I have no idea what to write.
Need to sleep.
All the best to all of you, and Lois, I am impressed at the 45k!! Great!
Twitter: fearofwriting
Way to go on the almost 4K, Armelle! Thanks for updating us and I hope your sleep well tonight. It must feel great to be exhausted from getting a bunch of writing done. 🙂 🙂
~ Milli
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Well done Armelle, that’s brilliant. Let your subconscious mull your story over for the night, you never know what it will have come up with by tomorrow 🙂
Good luck with the rest of NaNo
I’ve surpassed my goal for the day. I just wanted to reach 45K, but my novel’s now at 45,670 words. My word count for the day is 6,585. I’d say it was a great writing day for me! 🙂
And now I need to take a shower, fix dinner, then squeeze in a little role play.
Good luck to everyone who’s still writing. You can do it!
Lois
Twitter: fearofwriting
A great result for the day – and for the novel – Lois!! It was great to have you here with us today and you certainly made the most of it. 🙂 Enjoy your shower, dinner and role playing.
~ Milli
Thanks, Milli. It was fun. 🙂
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Wowzers! Nicely done Lois, yeah sounds like a bit of role playing is well deserved after today. 🙂
I agree! And that was fun, too. *g*
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Well most of today’s writing seems to have been blog comments and show reports!
Still digesting the old story, have read it over several times today and have scribbled a couple of notes on the print out, but think I’m gonna sleep on it and give it another shot tomorrow.
So glad everyone has had such a productive day today 🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
Jo, good plan. If you end up working on it tomorrow, feel free to come here and post your updates. I might even do that myself (if I get time to edit what I wrote today). Anyhow, I’ll see your updates no matter what – so if you want to feel that someone cares whether you’re making progress, you know where to come. 🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
I’m pleased to say I ended up with 5,605 words. 🙂 🙂
Not only that, I got the entire course laid out in Moodle. That means from now on, whenever I login to work on it, I can power away on the actual writing without having to create new layout as I go.
See you all (or at least some of you) on Saturday.
~ Milli
Way to go, Milli! 😀
Wish I could join you on Saturdays. 🙁
Good Morning!
I actually didn’t write anything besides journal entries since Wednesday so I’m all pumped up about today!
Got 778 words already in my journal, my goal for today will be 5.000 words again. Breakfast & research now, then more writing.
Have a great day everyone! 😀
Twitter: fearofwriting
Hi Lisa,
I’m pumped that you’re pumped about today. 🙂
So far, it looks like it’s just you and me. But, hey, that’s enough of a crowd to have a 10K Day with, I do believe. 🙂
I’ll look forward to your next update.
~ Milli
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Morning…well afternoon actually.
Things have gone a bit haywire here with work so doesn’t look like I’m going to get much done today.
Hope everyone else has a productive day.
x
Twitter: fearofwriting
Jo –
I’m bummed you can’t really join us today. Hope all goes well with work and thanks for taking the time to check in and let us know what’s up.
xo
Twitter: fearofwriting
Morning Dear Writers 🙂
I’m having my usual Saturday morning coffee time and leisurely brunch with hubby (who has just returned from being on the road for nine weeks) so I’ll be getting a late start today. See you in a few hours.
Happy Writing ~ Milli
Twitter: fearofwriting
OK, I coffeed with hubby, cooked and ate brunch, had a shower and cleaned my desk, ready for a fun writing day. I’m jazzed about the project I’m working on and the sun is shining (which is always a bonus this time of year in Northern Ohio).
Gonna start with some journaling with an old-fashioned pen and notebook. And then jump on the computer for the rest of it.
~ Milli
Journaling with pen and paper sounds lovely! Wish I could do that but I get horrible hand cramps after about half a page. Plus my thoughts move faster than I can write *lol*
Have fun with the project! 😀
Quick check-in, word count is at 1.560 right now. Not what I hoped it would be, but I got side-tracked by life *lol*
Going to have dinner and a watch movie with my boyfriend, maybe I’ll get more done later. I want to at least get 2.000 words down today.
Hope you have a productive writing day Milli 🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
Lisa, Hooray for the 1,560 words! The movie with your boyfriend sounds nice. I’m promising myself I can do the same tonight after my 10K Day is over.
My check-in: Got my journaling done and then moved onto the computer. I’ve added 1,948 to my project and have now finished two whole sections of the online course. (It still needs editing, but that will come later.)
OK, off to take a 10-minute break, grab a snack and then I’ll be back into it.
P.S. Which movie? 🙂
Wow, that’s some great progress! Congratulations! 😀 I’m giving up on getting any more writing done today. It’s one of those days… *lol*
We couldn’t decide on a movie so we continued with Doctor Who. After two episodes a friend came by with a major laptop crisis – crashed while she was writing her thesis and now I’m trying to save what I can. Maybe I could get some more writing done while the recovery and diagnostic tools are scanning but it’s getting late =) Guess I’ll call it a day and be more productive tomorrow.
What’s your new course going to be about? I’m currently saving up for a writing course but can’t really decide 😀
Twitter: fearofwriting
Hi Lisa,
Sorry to hear about your friend’s laptop crash. With her thesis on there she must be really stressed out. So nice of you to help her with it.
The online course I’m writing at the moment is about screenwriting. I’ve got a few other writing courses that I can finish up, too, by dedicating probably a day each to them. I also have two existing courses.
If you like, you can email me at coursepresenter@fearofwriting.com and tell me what your needs are in the way of a writing course. I can tell you if anything I have might be right for you. (And if it happens to be one of the courses I haven’t finished yet, that would spur me on to finish it. :))
I’ve made it to 3,778 words and fairly happy with that so far. I’m hoping to finish another section today, but to do that I’d have to write two more lessons. I’ll take a break, drink some water, and see if my brain is capable of anything more today.
~ Milli
Finished on the laptop! Probably saved the most important stuff, lucked out on that 😀
Thanks for your kind offer, I’ll e-mail you tomorrow 😀 I’m sort of on the fence about what direction to focus on and if you have something that fits I’d jump right in.
Hope you had a relaxing break, thanks for sharing all of your progress here. It’s really motivating to cultivate a writing habit for lazy people like me *lol*
Twitter: fearofwriting
Lisa, great news about saving the most important stuff on your friend’s laptop. Sounds like your good deed for the day. 🙂
I ended up with 5,541 words for today (which means that over the two 10K Days this week I did break the 10,000 mark – yippee!). I also met my goal of finishing the third section of the course. Still a long way to go to finish it but very pleased with my progress on it this week.
I’ll look forward to your email and I hope there’s some way I can help you. Thanks for hanging out here with me today even though you finished earlier than I did. 🙂
~ Milli
Thanks for the tips as well as the responses. This really helps me realize and gave me some points on how to finish my article with no feeling of being so stress. I’m still halfway to the finish line. gosh!
This is sounds exciting, I will surely give this a try next time.. =)
