FUN 10K DAY READING
(opens in a new browser window so you won’t lose your place)
Good Morning, 10K group, I think I am in the correct location.
It is now 0415 here, I just finished putting wood in the bird building furnace, and feed my dog Princess. I am ready to write. I have zero words so far, subject to change – I just developed a thought as to the subject of this story. So for the past hour I have been developing mental images of my story. I am starting to breathe a little bit of life into my characters, I sure hope they come alive on paper. Giving them CPR this early in the morning is tiring.
I will be writing about a young man’s life on the farm in southern Indiana. His success as a high school basketball player. He receives basketball scholarship to attend Purdue University. Following graduation he applies for a few jobs, after several rejections he is accepted by the government to work at Plum Island. While traveling to Plum Island, he spends a little bit of time experiencing New York’ scary night life. He soon learns the real definition of fear when he arrives at his new job site.

Good Morning, John,
You certainly are an early riser. “Up with the birds,” one might say. 😉
Very pleased to have you here with us and I’m excited about your story. Thanks for sharing a little of it with us and I hope you have fun writing on it today.
Onwards & upwards. ~ Milli
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Morning lovely people!
I seem to have been on a roll for the last week and I’m hoping I can keep up the momentum today!
As per Milli’s challenge, here’s my plan of what I want to write today:
– Twelfth Night Celebrations OR Te Kaha article for MT
– The overdue next installment of the Apple Diary for my blog
– The very overdue first pirate profile for my blog
– Continue with the novel
The novel has been very insistent the last few days! I now have a timeline, and where I thought the action would take place over 6-7 weeks, it’s actually on 27 days, now I understand how fast ships travelled in the 18th century.
Gaps in the story line are gradually closing up, characters are becoming clearer, I even managed to write part of the first scene yesterday so very very excited! Only problem I have is my 2nd female lead still doesn’t have an agreeable name and it’s driving me mad.
So come on 2012! Let’s get on and kick word arse!
Jo x
Good Morning, JM, sounds like you will be multi-tasking on an assortment of your writings today. I have read some of your writings in the past and have been impressed. Best of luck to you today on maintaining your momentum. I will be looking forward to seeing your progress throughout the day. John
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Thanks John. How’s your day going so far?
Don’t think I could manage the early start you’ve done. It’s just coming up to lunchtime here and I’m still in my pyjama’s, so I think it’s time for a shower and change of clothes.
First tick on the list, Apple Diary is done, so I’m on target at just under 1k.
Jo x
Twitter: fearofwriting
‘Morning, Jo,
Enjoyed reading your list and I’m impressed with your jammy-clad 1K Apple Diary sortie. BTW, I’ve been waiting for the next installment, so thank you very much on that one!
~ Milli
Hi all,
It’s 8 a.m. here and I’m just about to get started — having decided only just ten minutes ago to jump on board the 10K day (my first).
I’m going to start by revising Chapter 9 (of 25) of my latest novel translation. This is all about getting the English to really flow, make sure I have kept the author’s personification of inanimate objects, and the rhythm of the sentences.
It’s great to read about your projects so far this morning, John and Jo. Good luck to you both — and all those who check in when their day starts!
Twitter: fearofwriting
Lisa!
What fun that you made it, despite my last-minute invitation. I hope it gives your translation work an extra injection of “good flow of English.” 😀
~ Milli
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Is it really your first Lisa??? I guess I’m so used to seeing you around MT I just assumed I’d seen you over here as well :-s
Hope you have a great day. Your work sounds fascinating, I suppose I’ve never really thought about how much work actually goes into translating a piece of literature, far more complex than just hitting translate over at babelfish!
Jo x
Yes, Jo, it really is my first 10K day! I don’t honestly know why I never jumped on before… As if translating wasn’t entirely writing, when in fact that’s all literary translation is! As you say, challenging work, but I do so love it.
When today’s over I’m going to check out your Apple Diary!
Good morning John and Jo! 🙂
I’ve got a list of things to work on today:
* Work on Stalker, a fanfic mashup AU roleplay story.
* Brainstorm another fanfic story involving one of my characters and the Highlander, Duncan MacLeod.
* Write an entry for my-diary.org and iDailyDiary.
* Write an entry for my regular blogs.
* Write some character journals (mainly for my Immortal Watchdogs brothers, Damian and Casandro of Crete).
So with my plans in mind and coffee in hand, I’ll get off here and get started. See y’all soon!
Lois
Twitter: fearofwriting
Lois, you’re here! And with a full list of stuff to write. Now the 10K Day will feel like everything’s in its right place. 😉
~ Milli
I was here, but I left to write. I’m back again, and am about to update! I haven’t felt much like writing for a while, but today? Today I feel the creative juices flowing! 😀
Twitter: fearofwriting
AWESOME, Lois! I absolutely love hearing that today you can feel the creative juices flowing. Two thumbs up! 😉
Thanks, Milli! 😀 That’s what happens when I hit my writing first thing, before the distractions grab my attention.. 😉
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Ooo Lois! What fanfic series do you write? I’ve got a couple of series and ships that I follow, but have never managed to write anything of my own for the ships, I always seem to have to create new characters to throw in the way.
Sounds like you’ve got a very busy day ahead, good luck!
Jo x
Jo, I usually write my own original stories, but in this case, I’m having one of my characters meet the Highlander, Duncan MacLeod. My character’s an ex-Marine and former reporter, but he hasn’t lost that curious streak that sometimes gets him into trouble. He’s not just curious, though. He’s out to expose the truth (the hinderances to which are what made him quit reporting in the first place). But when he sees Duncan die and come back to life again, he may find that the truth is better left buried. 😉
I do, and thanks! Good luck to you, too. 🙂
And my friend, with whom I roleplay, writes Power Rangers…only a much more adult version with lots of angst and stuff. 🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
Good Morning, All,
Normally insomnia makes me a late starter on 10K Days, so I’m thrilled to be here at 8:30, almost ready to start. That’s “early” for me. 🙂
I already posted my list of intended writing during a challenge with Carole on the RSVP page. So I’m just going to make a mug of cappuccino to feed my muse and get stuck into it.
Happy Writing! ~ Milli
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Cool list Milli, and I must say I was surprised to see you pop up this early, don’t normally expect to hear from you til end of school (UK time!).
Hope you have an awesome day. I feel like it’s gonna be a good one all round 🙂
x
Twitter: cjtreggett
Hi Everyone,
It’s really cool to hear about the great projects you are working on. It’s my first 10k challenge too; I think the most I’ve ever written in a day was like 5,500 words or so way back in the late 90s LOL.
Despite having a restless night’s sleep, I got myself out of bed at 7, grabbed a coffee and got right to it. Like Milli, I already posted my list of writing intentions for today;I’m into my ebooklet project now, have approx. 1,700 words done so far.
Yikes, this is gonna be a longggg day lol. Need more coffee! Onward, writing soldiers!
Cheers (clinking mugs with Milli),
Carole
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Wow Carole! That’s an awesome number for words for so early in the morning!
Hope the rest of your day continues to be awesome.
Enjoy your first 10k day 🙂
Jo x
Twitter: fearofwriting
Carole, welcome!!
WOW, you just lit a fire under my butt with your first word count. You rock!
Jo, thanks for supporting everybody on these threads. I love it! And I gobbled down your lovely message to me as well. Let’s kick some word arse! 😀
~ Milli
Twitter: cjtreggett
Thx Jo. I’m spurred on by you guys. I’ll definitely be checking out your Apple Diary after this marathon is done 🙂
Carole,
Glad I’m not the only 10K Day first-timer here! Good on ya for getting so much done already. Hope that second cup of coffee kicks in and spurs you on to more beautiful words today!
Lisa
Twitter: fearofwriting
842 words and I’ve finished one new lesson in Section 6 of Write Your Screenplay in 29 Days.
The momentum feels awesome already but, how inconvenient, I’m starving and need to eat breakfast. GROAN!
Back after eggs on toast and a quick shower…..
Twitter: cjtreggett
Go Milli, go! lol Just touching base quickly as I refuel on java 🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
OK, eggs down the hatch. Shower next. I hates these irksome details when all I wanna do is write! 😉
Just wanted to tell you quickly: Even after adding only one lesson of 842 words to my online course, I’m so insanely inspired to finish it’s insane. 😀 Also, our challenge is giving me even more juice for the course I want to write after I launch this one. Our challenge has def. added to the inspiration. I’m not even sure I would have worked on this course today if we hadn’t done that. And yesterday I learned of a writer who says he wants this course. Yeah! Including you, that’s two possible students already.
Hello All, this is the first time I looked up from my keyboard all morning. I thought it was just JM and me. I smiled as I realized that the whole gang is here working away. While many of you are busy working on multiple writings, I am going to just stick with just one. One may even be too many. The intent of my story was to expose Plum Island, but I find my character still doing chores on the farm. I guess you can take the boy off the farm but never the farm out of the boy. Thus far my story may be informational for city slickers, but humdrum to farm boys. I find recalling these memories refreshing; it was such a happy time. Because I got an early start my word count is approaching 2 K, but with every two sentence I write, I delete one or more. “Happy Writing”. John
Twitter: fearofwriting
John, what an awesome update! I’m thrilled for you. And I had fun reading about your process. I got more than a few chuckles from your dry wit about the farm boy and his chores.
That’s a terrific word count, esp. considering you’ve been deleting about half of it before you count it.
So glad you’ve been enjoying your writing so much you barely remembered to look up from your keyboard.
~ Milli
Twitter: cjtreggett
Your project sounds very cool, John. I like how you’re revising your writing schedule as you go. Wow, 2k already. You rock 🙂
OK, so I got completely distracted with “urgent” client work, but that’s OK, right? It was proofreading 1500 words of English…
I also managed to revise Chapter 9 of my novel translation, 2700 words. (Lest you think I’m crazy fast or doing a terrible job, let me note that this is not the first time I’ve revised this chapter…!)
But like Milli, I’m now starving and must take a break and scrounge some breakfast. Unlike Milli and Carole, I haven’t had any coffee so I’m pretty fuzzy-headed at this point. Must remedy that.
When I sit back down I will ignore all email and revise Chapter 10.
Lisa 😉
Twitter: cjtreggett
You did all that without coffee, Lisa?
Ok, I gotta get back to my work now lol.
Twitter: cjtreggett
Hmm…Lisa, I put “bows reverently” in brackets after my question and it didn’t ‘take’:)
Twitter: fearofwriting
I’m bowing with Carole 😀
Twitter: helenaritchie
Hi Everyone!
Nice to see everyone again, and feel the blast of positive creative energy flowing. 🙂 As usual, I’m late getting started. On tap today is a pile of catch-up writing… a blog post for each of my 3 blogs, a section of a new ebook, and a set of articles for my PLR store. If I can get all that done and fit in a workout I will be very happy.
Have a great day!
Lena
Twitter: fearofwriting
Hey, Lena! Great to have you with us again. Your plan sounds fantabulous . . . and if you can do all that writing PLUS a workout, I will totally be in awe. 😀
Have fun! ~ Milli
Wow everyone’s really productive around here 😀
I woke up sick so I’m going to sit this one out =) Just a bit of journaling with a cup of chamomile tea seems to be the limit today.
Hope you all have a great 10K day, I’ll join in on Saturday 🙂
Lisa
Twitter: fearofwriting
Lisa, so sorry to hear you’re sick. 🙁 But it sounds like you’re doing the best thing, getting some rest.
And I can still look forward to your company on Saturday! Hope you feel better soon.
~ Milli
Thanks Milli! 🙂
Guess I shouldn’t go out frolicking in the snow when I’m stressed, it seems to have crashed my immune system.
But it’s nice to get a bit of a breather from everything, plus now I have an excuse to watch Doctor Who all day LOL!
Looking forward to Saturday!
Managed to write not one, but two new scenes in Stalker, for a beginning total of 2,649 words! 😀
Still on the menu for today:
*
Work on Stalker, a fanfic mashup AU roleplay story.* Brainstorm another fanfic story involving one of my characters and the Highlander, Duncan MacLeod.
* Write an entry for my-diary.org and iDailyDiary.
* Write an entry for my regular blogs.
* Write some character journals (mainly for my Immortal Watchdogs brothers, Damian and Casandro of Crete).
But first, I need to grab something to eat (split pea and ham soup over Jasmine rice…yummy)!
Then I’ll work on the next thing on the list.
Good luck to all of you!
Lois
Twitter: fearofwriting
Wowsers, Lois, you’re about the fastest writer I know! It’s taken me since 9:15 just to get to 2300.
I love seeing you leave burn marks in the track with your writing! 🙂
I’m not sure how long that took me. Could it really be about three hours? 😛
LOL Just as long as the burn marks aren’t across my writing software. That would make it tricky to see when I need to edit what I’ve written! 😉
Gosh, Lois, that’s a great accomplishment this morning and you’re already on to your next of several tasks! Kudos!
I’m feeling quite distracted, got interrupted by clients but trying to get back on track. Almost, almost, almost done revising Chapter 10 and then I will have a brief lay down on the couch with the heating pad, grab a little leftover mushroom risotte for lunch, and let one bunch of words drift out of my mind to make room for the next bunch.
You’re all keeping me inspired!
Lisa
Thanks, Lisa! 🙂
Right now, I’m getting ready to grab something to eat and answer a few e-mails, then I’ll move onto the next item on my list. I’m making my breaks count!
Twitter: fearofwriting
2300 words. And happy.
I’m going to take a break and make some coffee. And think about the next bit I’m planning to write.
~ Milli
Excellent word count, Milli! It seems to me you’re on a roll. 🙂
Twitter: cjtreggett
Well, I’m facing a bit of a lull over here. I feel I had a productive morning, 2,800 words down for my ebook project, so I’m happy with that progress.
Just finished a workout and now going to grab something quick for lunch to get my energy back up, then dive into getting some blog posts written a.s.a.p.
I admire you all so much – this is hard work! Lois, I love your description of your parrots following you around on foot. LOL.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Terrific progress, Carole! Exciting about the 2,800 words on your e-book. Sounds like you’ve already completed the “mandatory” part of our challenge, so everything from here on out will be icing on the cake.
Kudos to you for working out on a 10K Day. 🙂
LOL Actually, it was John who made that comment. 😉
Twitter: cjtreggett
Oops lol. Having a wee bit of comment thread dyslexia I see. Sorry! 🙂
Hahaha! No worries. 🙂
Twitter: cjtreggett
That’s way cool, Milli. I’m really enjoying this experience; so glad you host these 10k days!
Twitter: fearofwriting
A friend introduced me to the 10K Day way back in 2005. Back then we would do it by email, and usually only two of us. One month a couple of years ago I wanted to do a 10K Day but didn’t have a buddy to do it with. That gave me the idea to post it on my blog to ask for writing companions that day. Everybody loved it so much it turned into a regular event. 🙂
Twitter: cjtreggett
My brain is as mushy as overcooked spaghetti squash too now. Another break is in order methinks! I managed to get two blog posts written (will need editing in a bad way though lol) in addition to the work I did this morning on my ebook, bringing my word count up to 4,155.
Even though I’m tired now, this has been such a great experience thus far.
Twitter: fearofwriting
That’s fantastic! You’ve reinspired me. I slowed way down and only made it to 3500 before I needed a longer break. I have my whole list of blog posts still to do. We’ll see what my soggy brain can manage. 🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
Also, I should have done this sooner, but Terri asked me to tell you that she couldn’t be here today because of the virus she’s been struggling with.
She’s going to try to do the 10K Day on Saturday if she’s better by then. I feel for her – she was so looking forward to today.
Twitter: cjtreggett
Thanks, Milli, I already emailed Terri to check and see how things were going for her. Last report was she was really looking forward to today and hoping to feel well enough, but not much to do except rest when dealing with a bad virus like that.
If she can make it on Saturday, I’m sure she’ll enjoy the camaraderie. I know I sure have! Such a lovely creative community you’ve fostered here.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Thanks, Carole. It’s been such a pleasure building this little haven. The writers who show up always blow me away with their enthusiasm and the way they spread the spirit of camaraderie.
Saturday 10K Days are usually a lot less trafficked, so if Terri can make it that day the mood will be quieter than this. Which could be just what she needs.
P.S. FINALLY found my second wind! And my brain is enjoying writing an article about the brain and writing. 🙂
Lois and Milli, I started on the writing track early this morning, I was ahead for a little while when I was the only one there. But, now I have slowed. You both have left me in your smoke, congratulations, proud of all of you. I just took a break, to briskly walk/run my two miles, it my diet plan. I try to burn up through exercising one third of all the calories I take in every day. It is working, but it takes the fun out of eating. Maybe I will devise a plan where I develop a correlating mathematical formula connecting my daily written words with my daily intake of calories. Well back to writing. John
Twitter: fearofwriting
John, that’s a hoot about the formula connecting your intake of calories with your writing! Sounds like a good short story idea too.
Congrats on getting some exercise in during a 10K Day. Good role model stuff for the rest of us. 😀
I was thinking the same thing Milli was…that it would make a great story. Maybe something in the comedy genre?
I’m about to get back to writing too, now that I’m done eating. 🙂
Good luck, John!
Lois, you must have seen me run, to know that it is comical. I have noticed a few of my parrots who prefer to walk around after me instead of flying. Yes, I think they may be mimicking me while laughing the entire time.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Hilarious! I can totally visualize that!
😀
LOL You know I’ve never seen you run before. 😉
As for the parrots…African Greys?
I’ve thought about taking up jogging with the Pupplet, but I can’t bring myself to do it during the warm (read: hot as Hell) months. There are too many snakes, spiders, wasps, and other creepy things around here…not to mention the occasional stench that comes from the sewage treatment plant about a mile away! 😛
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Dang it! Made the mistake of putting on a film with lunch and it killed my motivation. 🙁
A little under half way through the Te Kaha article but I might head back to the novel for a bit to try and get my momentum going again.
So glad to see everyone making such good use of today, very impressed by the counts coming through, and Lisa H, really hope you feel better soon.
x
Twitter: fearofwriting
Jo, I’m sending you Milli Motivational Vibes to help you get your stride back after a bit of movie watching. And I’m hankering for your Te Kaha article so hopefully your editor’s excited-puppy-panting will help push you along. 🙂
I’m here. Bet you thought I forgot, Milli! Actually, I had to finish reading the second book I’m about to review. So now… organizing my notes for two book reviews, drafting both and finalizing one. (Deadlines are powerful motivators… along with 10k days.)
Hugs, y’all!
Twitter: fearofwriting
LOL! I felt your post. I was just saying to myself “Where’s j?” and five minutes later your message popped through into my email.
So glad you’re here. We’ve got a lovely, fun group with us and everyone’s doing great!
Have fun with your book reviews. 🙂
xoxo
3300 words and feeling a bit brain dead.
I finished my commitment to the challenge I had with Carole, which was to add one new section to the online course I’m writing. I’m now about half-way through building that course.
Going to take a break and do some reading to relax and rejuv. I need a second wind.
I’m with you, Milli, in terms of being a bit brain dead right now. I’m part way through revising Chapter 11, which means so far today I’ve gone over about 8,000 words. Oof.
As j said, though, it’s amazing what deadlines along with 10K days can make you do! I think I need to step back for a while, though, because at this point I’m not paying close enough attention to what’s on the page.
John and Lena, I’m in awe that you fit in some exercise today, too! Fab. I’m sure it helps refocus you though. I had hoped to get to Tai Chi this morning but knew I had too much on my plate to fit that in. It’s a hard balance to find.
Love these days, though, Milli. I’m going to be a (semi?!) regular attendee. 😉
Twitter: fearofwriting
Lisa, I would adore having you as a (semi?!) regular attendee! So glad you’re finding it helpful for your translating work. And I’m in awe of those 8,000 words. 🙂 🙂
I’m in awe too!
I have a tiny bit less than 8,000. About an 8th of that, actually, but I’m not discouraged. (I just told my son that hell hath no fury compared to the fury which I will unleash upon the next interruption.)
I think he’s scared, and his laughing was just bravado.)
Twitter: cjtreggett
LOL J…kudos for being able to work and be prolific regardless of those interruptions.
Twitter: fearofwriting
That was cute and funny, j. Just the light relief I needed for my brain fry. 😀
Twitter: cjtreggett
Wow, Lisa, over 8,000 words, eh? Amazing feat. I think you should get the Arnold Schwarzenegger writing prowess award 😀
Note: That’s 8,000 words of *revision* and in fact of text I had already revised once before, so I certainly don’t deserve any prowess awards!
Still, it was a productive day and I’m happy even though I never got any blog posts drafted…
Hope to see you at another 10K day, Carole!
Twitter: cjtreggett
Ah, ok, revision. Still,Lisa, that’s a heck of a big chunk of work completed. I’ll definitely be back again and hope to see you too 🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
Lisa & Carole – I’m assuming you already know one another from living in the same burg? Ottawa, Ontario for both of you right?
🙂
Twitter: cjtreggett
That’s so funny! No, I don’t think I’ve ever met Lisa in person “yet”. I live in the boonies about a 45 minute drive west of downtown Ottawa, actually.
Hey everyone, looks like a lot of progress being made. Way to go! 🙂
As for me, I’m just stopping in for a minute. I’m not really doing the 10K today. Instead, I’m getting to know characters for a new short story. Hopefully by the weekend, I’ll be ready to roll with the story itself.
Good luck all!
Twitter: fearofwriting
Hey, Maria, thanks for checking in on us. 🙂
Sounds like Saturday will be the ticket with all those new characters getting acquainted with you.
C U then. ~ Milli
Nice to see you, Maria! 😀
Well, I haven’t accomplished as much as I would have liked, but I did accomplish a couple of things on my list.
Most recent was a character journal for one of my Immortal Watchdogs characters (1,293 words), which brought my total to 3,942 words. I hope to write more later, but right now, I need to take a break!
Glad to see everyone’s making progress. Keep up the great work!
Lois
Twitter: fearofwriting
3942 sounds fab to me! That’s more than I’ve got to date (3300). Enjoy your break!
It ended up being more than a break. My eyes are dry and irritated now, so I need to get off here after I finish on here.
Darn! I really wanted to write another character journal entry or two! 🙁
Well, there’s always tomorrow, right? 🙂
Twitter: jmmerchant86
So my MT article is done, which brings me in at 1808 words total, not quite where I wanted to be but hey I’m still getting stuff done.
One of my friends is hassling me for the first draft of a short story I was having trouble finishing, so I’m going to take a crack at that in place of the pirate profile. Might manage the profile later but we’ll see.
Congrats to everyone so far, hope those second winds hit, but even if they don’t, bloody well done chaps!
x
Twitter: fearofwriting
LOL! I love the “Bloody well done, chaps.”
I, for one, am very happy with your results for today so far. 😉
Good luck with the short story and the (possible) pirate profile. I plan to be here for a good while yet, so feel free to check in.
Twitter: jmmerchant86
So another short story that I started planning a few months back decided to have a hissy fit, bringing my total of unfinished short stories to 6, and my grand total word count for today to 2329.
And as it’s nearly 1am I think that’s bed time, my brains given up!
Hope anyone who’s still going is having fun.
See some of you Saturday.
x
Twitter: fearofwriting
You’re so funny, Jo. I love the sound of a story having a hissy fit to be written. 🙂
Marvelous work on the 2329. We’ll be back in the trenches on Saturday. Meanwhile, I’m off to read The Apple Diary – Part 2. Should be cool!
Sleep well. You earned it.
Twitter: jmmerchant86
I’m not kidding Milli! Some of these stories act like 7 year olds! Come to think of it, it’s not disimilar to your ‘Inner Kid vs Ego’ dialogue…and now I might have to type up something similar! But it can wait til the morning!
Twitter: fearofwriting
You crack me up! Seven year olds.
Now get to bed. 😉
Twitter: fearofwriting
4676 words so far. Really had a ball during this latest bit writing an article for my grad students.
Time for dinner. I’m starving!~ We’re having Cuban Beans and Rice and cornbread. (All leftovers, so I don’t have to cook on the 10K Day, but they’ll be *yummy* leftovers. :))
Twitter: cjtreggett
Kudos, Milli; you are like some kind of writing Energizer bunny! I’m wavin’ the white flag at 4,755. I was hoping to get past the 5,000 word mark, but I’m done for the day. Really starving and heating up leftover beef stroganoff on wholewheat egg noodles and steamed broccoli. And a much deserved glass of vino 🙂
Your supper sounds delish too. Thanks again, Milli and all for a super day. ‘Night, night.
Twitter: fearofwriting
So glad you enjoyed the day! I had vino with my dinner too and it felt much deserved.
I’m amazed to say I made it through my entire list. All except for writing a short post for my coaching site – but I realized I’d already written one so I let myself off the hook for that.
Our challenge, and seeing your progress, really spurred me on. I think I would have quit after my first project was done if not for that, because it left me with a severe case of soggy brain. So glad I pushed through! Now I can start a fresh new list for Saturday. (Though right now I feel too tired to care. :))
I wish I were eating with Milli! Finished one review and half a draft. Have to break but I’ll be back to it later. Thank you, Milli, for keeping me (more or less) focused on the task at hand today!
Hi j ~
I’m still here! I’m glad you’re still there!
I have one more blog post to write and then I’ll be heading off for some downtime before bed. But please make your final update after your finish your second review so I can read it here in the morning. 🙂
I’ll think of you as I drop off to sleep, and visualize you writing in Calif.

Made it to 5,328 and crossed everything off my list. Very satisfied!!
G’night to everyone who participated. I’ll be seeing some of you on Saturday. 🙂

Hello! Okay, one more draft done, but I’m out of gas before writing tomorrow’s ZS post. (Sigh.) I’ll tackle that one tomorrow. Thank you for today!
Okay this is my first time doing this and since I am up I figured I’d get started. I am hoping to get several blog posts done at 500 each, a sponsorship letter written, a proposal started, and a couple of articles for a website done.
I’ve done Nanowrimo and have hit the 50K mark all but one year so I would think this would be easy but we shall see.
Have a Chittering Good Day,
Jo

Hi Jo,
Best of luck with your list of tasks, sounds like you’ll be keeping busy, and a nice bit of variety always helps.
Hmm…50K in 30 days or 10K in 1 day, they both sound pretty hard to me but I know which ones worse 😉
Don’t sweat the count too much, it’s all just a bit of fun really.
Nice to meet you.
Jo x
Nice to meet you JM.
I am not sweating the count too much. I tend not to keep a good writing schedule and having goals like this seems to help me with what I need to get done.
Gotten 1 blog post done, almost done with an article just checking some facts.
so will have almost 1.5K done soon. Not too bad since I did finally fall asleep at 3am and got back up at 9am.
Okay off to make more coffee and finish my fact checking.
Have a Chittering Good Day,
Jo
It’s already 1pm over here, and I just sat down to write. So a full 10k day is not in the cards for today, but writing as much as I can is.
I’ll be working on a couple of articles and blog posts, and since it’s a more relaxed 10k day, I’ll also try to answer e-mails and leave comments on friend’s blog/websites. I almost never have the time to anymore, so dedicating an afternoon to it sounds good 🙂

Hi-de-hi campers
Glad to see I’ve got some company already. Late start as well, not as strict a target as Wednesday, I’ve got to go into town at swap critques with a friend.
Looking to get at least one of the myriad of floundering short stories finished, it’s my mum’s anniversary so she’s my muse today, lets see if she can still kick my arse about getting homework done.
Hope everyone has a great word-arse-kicking day.
Jo x
I should be writing.
So, naturally, I’m procrastinating and making good use of that time by building myself a clock.
Not just any clock though, a “Writer’s Clock” 😉
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Oooo a writers clock? Does it tell the time by word count?
Oh darn, I knew I left out one of its features…
There will be a craft tutorial about it soon. Hey, maybe I’ll write that crafty blog post today so I’ll get to consider this particular procrastination research.

Good Morning!
Wednesday turned out to be a total wash for me … didn’t get a thing done. So I’m back to try again today. 🙂 Hope everyone is having a wonderfully productive and creative day!

Good Morning Me Lovelies,
(Jo, you’ve got me thinking in piratespeak. Hmm, or is that someotherspeak? I’ve been working too hard lately to know what’s what inside my brain. :))
Snuck in about 90 minutes ago and saw that things were going fine here. Not everyone has arrived yet, but we’ll have at least one other writer for sure (Terri), plus maybe a newcomer by the name Kii. Kii posted on the RSVP page that she decided she wanted to write 10,000 words and she found this event by googling for 10K info.
I’ve been working like a dog this entire week (never made it out of my jammies at all yesterday) so I need more time to regroup. I’ll be back after a shower and a good, hearty brunch to join the game.

Hi, yep, I will be writing. 🙂

Hi KII 🙂
Looking forward to hearing your check-ins today. Happy writing!
~ Milli
Well, it’s nearly 7pm over at this end of the world and so far I’ve managed to:
assemble my writer’s clock, edit photos, clean my bunny’s cage, feed it and the cats as well, water my plants, do some laundry and the dishes, finish up some crafts, take some pictures and re-pot a plant.
Procrastination – check.
On the bright side, I also:
wrote a travel article (which I’m giving a little time before re-reading and then sending along to Milli), wrote and started drafts for some blog posts – one of which, the recipe of the month, is now up on my blog.
Some writing – check.
Now let’s focus on some more writing while I’m drinking a cappuccino 😉

So, I’ve been writing for two hours, and I’ve made it to 5,408 words in my novel. My goal is just to write 10k in my novel.
I love writing, and writing fast, sooo. 🙂
Hi All!
It’s 1:12 PM here. Chores and cat tending details completed, tummy full and I am ready to go! Late start, but that doesn’t worry me. I am happy as a lark to be here! No words typed yet, but have been composing in my head all morning!
This is my first 10K. I have a To-Write list with 26 short stories to write including some travel stories for MT. Of course, I won’t write all that today. I’ll review my list and see what pops out.
I’m not focused on word count, just want to just write what I can.
Through the window in front of my computer I’m watching rain and puddle lakes in my back yard! And birds flying through raindrops to get to feeders!
I’m listening to my creativity tape.
Welcome KII! I hope you enjoy Milli and the camaraderie of writers that flock around her.
Looks like you guys had a blast on Wed 10K!
Wow, I sure am on the bird theme today!
Fired up, ready to go!!
Welcome Terri and Kii 😉
Glad your writing days are/will be spent so nicely, good plans!
Meanwhile, I finished some more blog posts and am thrilled about them!
Twitter: fearofwriting
Lena, Estrella, both Jos, Terri and Kii,
I’m lovin’ all your updates! Wish I had time to respond to each one individually, but today has gone crazy for me (in a good way).
Yesterday I worked like a maniac to get the new site for the Fear of Writing Online Course finished. (The course has been around since 2001 but I have some compelling reasons to build a new site.) I haven’t even launched it yet but somebody already found it about an hour ago and is considering enrolling. So now I’ve gotta to finish everything lickety-split and also stay on top of her questions if she needs me by email. And if she enrolls, I’ll really be busy!
So, yeah, I’m doing another marathon today, just not one that has a word count attached.
GO US!
~ Milli
Dang why is it when I get on a decent roll I end up with a blasted migraine. Lost time and words due to the medications but at least I am back at it. I’ll be happy if I hit the 5K mark.
At least I have a couple of blog posts done. An articles and the beginning of another one. So in all not a bad day of writing.
Have a Chittering Good Day,
Jo
Twitter: fearofwriting
Jo, how’s that migraine? I hope you’re OK. Sorry that had to hit just when you were trying to do something cool for your own writing. 🙁

Thanks for the welcome everyone, and hi to you too!
I just seriously ran into the kitchen chanting, “soda, soda, soda!” in hopes that my mind would clear up a bit. It did.
I can actually process information again.
8,230 words. This is too much fun! (Even the brain dead part)
😀
Hi Everyone!
Jo, everything you just reported benefitted me. Thank you. Oh no, a migraine and foggy brain meds for it, yuck. It is commendable that you are staying with it. Great that you have found a way to live with it and keep going on what you want to do. Crittering good day to you too!
Kii, you sound great! I think I just heard you chant, “soda!” I am heading that direction just now. You are some kind of a marathon writer. Wow! Thanks for pumping that energy into my day!
I started off slower than expected. My new course of action is working brilliantly. I was not able to write post-able stuff as I intended, so I switched to writing a personal story that I’ve wanted to write for a long time. Words are flying now. This feels wonderful.
Report:
1) Short article on hesitancy and decisions and 2) a travel story that turned into a personal story for 1151 words for 2 hours. I’m pleased. It is flowing much faster now that I switched what I am writing.
I’m breaking now for snack and to do a little paid odd job I do on weekends. Back shortly.

Oh, no, I just enjoy the challenge of writing as fast as I can. I doubt my novel is making any sense any more, but still, 10k in one day is great for it. The most I’ve ever written is 6k in one day.
Oh, by the way, the soda is the most helpful thing. I’m not a coffee person, so this is the only way I may be able to get hyper. 😀
Best of luck to you!
LOL! I drink coffee and soda simultaneously! Maybe I need to go solo with soda so I can type fast too!
“doubt my novel makes any sense any more” you have me in stitches!!!
I’m having loads of fun too! I’m so glad you are here, you make me laugh!
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Blimey! Glad to see everyone has been busy while I’ve been royally slacking off!
It’s now 21:40 over here, I’m only just home, Milli I had that pint for you…it may have been two actually but who’s counting!
Had a great afternoon/evening with a great friend who’s also a writer, I gave her crit on her novel, she let me bounce random thoughts and story ideas off her, so writing was done, it just wasn’t written!
Now to try and get mum’s short story written, or one of the others!
Keep kicking folks!
Jo x

OHMYGOSH! I just passed the 10k line (by 3 words) I had no idea that I could do this! Thank you all! I’m TOTALLY doing this again. 🙂
I am now going to shower and maybe write some more…maybe.
😉
Twitter: jmmerchant86
Crikey Kii that’s impressive! Milli, is that a record? I don’t know of anyone that’s hit the 10k mark since I’ve been taking part.
Nice one Kii!
Twitter: fearofwriting
No, we’ve had people bust 10K before, including me. Lois holds the record for the most number of times. But I think Kii has definitely set a new record for how long it took her. Seems like she only showed up a few hours ago and then BAM! Very cool.
Goodonya, Kii. Glad you enjoyed it, too. 🙂
Congrats, Kii, that is wonderful to achieve! (especially so, coming from someone who hasn’t done so in one sitting, in one day like you just have in a few hours) 🙂
Awesome!
I’m starting not to make sense anymore. Guess it’s time to call it a night writing-wise… Not motivated enough to add up the word count of each separate post and article, but I was over 3000 if I recall correctly, so it wasn’t a bad day 🙂
Since my new book arrived yesterday, I’m off to reading that now.
Have a lovely rest of your 10k Day everyone!
I’m back, oxygenated after a short while outside, a few minutes on mini trampoline. I’m fed (again) on some wonderful homemade soup someone gave me yesterday.
JM, sounds inspiring to meet with a writer friend and all.
while I am not going to make 10K I did make it past 6K which makes me very happy. I have three blog posts finished except for a few peices of research and of course rewrites. 1 article and 2 sponorship letters done along with the start of a fiction peice I hadn’t even planned on. So in all with headache and a pushy cat I think I’ve done pretty well for my first time participating.
Have a Chittering Good Day,
Jo

It’s about 8:30 p.m. here and I think I’m gonna call it a night. The words fought me every step of the way again today but I persevered enough to at least get one major article done for Monday’s newsletter. Final count today… 1137 words. 🙂
Have a great rest of the weekend!
I’m calling it a day, a good day considering how long I was actually writing. It was much slower for me to write today than it usually is. I don’t question that, just acknowledge it.
After my last check in, I went back to writing my personal story. It was very slow and I felt like I was doodling. I decided to quit for the day, then remembered I had committed to working on my resume today. I felt like I would only open it, type one word then close and quit for the day.
Instead, great ideas came to me and I was able to add 32 words worth of bullets! Those who know my resume writing history will know this was the pot of gold for 10K day for me!
I wrote for about 4 hours today, less than what I intended for a total of 1605 words. I am pleased. I will prepare differently and will be back next time.
I love this writing space, hearing everyone’s experience and dedicated time!
Thank you Wonderful Milli for hosting this!
Cheers to all who wrote today and are still writing!
