Ah, the simple pleasures of being the first to mark the blank page.

Perhaps there is something to be said for living just on the right side of the UTC meridian (even though Ireland is a little to the east of Grenwich!

    Anyhow, here I start.

Word count is currently zero (LOL), but all I can do now, is to go upwards. ;-)))

For anyone else joining us today, may I wish you the best of luck.

Liam, it’s about an hour before bed-time here in Ohio. I’m not normally awake when the first writer posts his/her check-in, so this is kinda cool.

Happy writing! And good luck with your seminar.

    Hi,

Almost 4 hours! And I have managed just 1562 words. Not very good really. Still, it is the best I can do.

Boy, do I hope you all do better than that!

Anyhow, time to go beddy buy buys.

Tomorrow, I will try to do better.

And for everyome else, I hope you manage better than me.

    Cheers,

    Hey all!

The night owl is getting started late, although its 3 am so maybe early is the key word. I have written 1,211 words, all small stories as told by my dad since he just got back from a mission trip to India about 4 hours ago. I was asked to take his journal and other trip members’ journals and compile stories to go in a small booklet for others to read. So yay for a writing project? I know what I’ll be doing for Saturday!

Since I won’t be back until MUCH later, good luck to all! I’ll be cheering you on mentally!

(Excuse any errors. My iPhone and I have a love/hate relationship. The autocorrect officially hates me.)

Laura, a booklet compiling everyone’s experience in India sounds like a fun and fascinating project!

Knowing me, I will probably still be here when you reappear MUCH later. Especially since I got up late so I’ll probably write till even later than usual. See ya then!

hello! Midday in Sousse, Tunisia and getting started on my writing. Had great intentions of starting earlier, but he Universe had other plans for me… anyway the rest of the day is mine!! so onward . . . I’ve got topics set out for 4 different ebooks to use as giveaways on my website . . . all about creativity (loosely) so my goal is 2500 words each. . . we’ll see what happens!

Will be back in a couple hours to check in — happy penning, tapping, typing everyone!

    ciao for now — Paula

90 minutes into it, checking in . . . about 600 words on the first topic — the Care and Feeding of the Creative Self . . . so far writing longhand, it’s easier on my sore shoulder and I think better with a pen n hand anyway 🙂
I’ve decided to shift topics after each break (unless I am really on a roll)partly to get something done on each of the 4 and partly to keep it fresh (I hope!)
How’s it going for everyone else??

I’m here! Finally. But it looks like one of those days where everyone starts late. I’m starting late because I was excited about the 10K Day and couldn’t fall asleep for a long time. I slept in so I wouldn’t be groggy today.

It’s a gorgeous sunny day, I’m about to make a big yummy cappuccino and get started with some journaling.

Another hour, and picking up speed 🙂 another 350 words on the original topic and about 250 for Imagination is Key — outlining the idea and the Eleven Exercises to stretch the Imagination . .. I think I will continue with that, and flesh out the 11 roughly before moving on . . . since I got a later start than I wanted, I’m not sure I will manage 2500 on each booklet, but I hope to reach 1000 on each, that will make for good momentum I think . . .I think I need a snack!

The way I type I’m not really sure if longhand is slower -LOL- the 11 exercises . . . I think I have some interesting Imagination stretchers in there . . . stretching MY imagination to come up with some fresh ones 🙂 Now back to the notebooks!

Whew! I’m not the only one who’s late. However, I may be the only one not writing. LOL. I did write a little something about living with an ADHD muse, but it didn’t get her to focus. She’s in overdrive today and pulling out all the stories she thinks I should be working on. We can’t pick just one, can we?

Anyhoot, I’m going to attempt some free writing, but no clue what it will be about. Maybe I need one of those thinking cats on? LOL

    Good morning all,
LOL Patti, I just saw the ‘thinking cat’ pic from a link Milli tweeted; really good one!

I’ve managed to get my morning pages written (approx. 350 words)when I first got up. Longing to just stay with my journaling, but alas, duty calls and I’ll have to take care of some client-related biz for an hour or two…

I was staring at the picture at the top of this post, and decided I, too, am going to take myself and my writing notebook to a local beach (about a 15 minute drive from my house) as soon as I can get away and get some uninterrupted writing time in. If it’s too crowded or noisy there, then off I will go to one of my favourite quieter spots along the river. Always plenty of shade and quiet inspiration to be found there.

After that, I’ll come home to tap-tap-tap away on the keyboard and hopefully make some decent headway on a few pieces I’m working on.

I’ll check back in later. Hope all of you have a magical writing day!

Carole, the beach sounds divine!! What a great idea. I’m glad the picture at the top of this page helped you think of that. Wish I could join you on that beach. But at least I have a gorgeous day to savor through my window. And I can walk in the park.

Good luck getting your client stuff out of the way so you can indulge in your creative self.

The Thinking Cat picture was great! I saw it on facebook this morning 🙂 I started out writing on my balcony which overlooks the sea, but it got too windy (as it often does mid-afternoon) so I retreated indoors — but still have the “soundtrack” of wind and waves 🙂

630 words of journaling that flowed out of my purple pen and got me all relaxed. Now time for some brekkie and then I’ll be journaling again.

Everything’s experimental today – no agendas on what to write. I’ll let my journal shine a light into which tunnel(s) I’ll be excavating today. 🙂

    July 25, 2012 | 11:27 AM

I’m late, but I’m here! I also won’t get to write just yet. I need to fix something to eat for my mom and myself, then I need to do a 20-minute walk (once I’m done walking for the day, I will have walked 10 miles!). And, as usual, I have other stuff to do. Most of my writing will be tonight.

So far, I’ve done some roleplay, which is technically writing. After all, I write from my characters’ points of view! 🙂

I also have a couple of new characters I want to explore in a scene–a fight scene, actually–well, partially, at any rate. And I need to do some brainstorming. So as is usual of late, it will be more of a planning day with a little writing. My goal isn’t to reach 10K, but to work more on development–although fitness-wise, it WILL be a 10K Day. 😀

Liam – Congrats on the 2014. I know it sounds like a long way from 10,000 . . . but sometimes showing up and doing what you can is the same as making your desired word count. We’ve ALL had 10K Days where we felt like tortoises. But it’s all good over time. It looks like you’ve joined us as a “regular” so now it becomes more of an eternal quest than a monthly tally. 🙂

Brekkie’s over and now I’m ready for some more journaling.

My first journaling session relaxed me so much I almost feel too lazy to write. BUT there’s a huge smile of anticipation on my lips as I contemplate opening my journal again, so maybe “boneless like a cat in a pool of sunshine” can be successfully combined with gently pushing a pen across the page. 🙂

Hello again — I’ve been writing longhand for about 6 hours now (with breaks)and have accumulated around 3000 words for my efforts, good starts on 3 of the 4 ebooks. Yay for 10K Day! My hand is tired and the sore-shoulder has started to throb, so I think I may be done for the day . . . but I’m delighted with the results especially considering my late start.
If my shoulder is up to it I’ll drop in on Saturday and see if I can pull another 3K together 🙂

You must have rubbed off on me with your six hours of longhand. I normally start my day with journaling and then move onto the keyboard for the bulk of it – but I’m over 4 hours into my writing day and still longhanding it in my journal. And lovin’ it!

I wish you could have been there with me. It’s a magical little spot. Tranquil. I did have a bit of company;there was this seagull who stood on a rock not far from my own perch at the water’s edge. Was hilarious when a few of his/her friends flew by calling out for him/her to follow and he squawked in reply, “No! Even though she doesn’t have any junk to feed me,I’m gonna hang out near this cool human for a bit. She needs me to pose for her quintessential ‘bird on a river rock on a perfect summer’s day’ photo.” 😀

I think this is the very first time I’ve felt relaxed throughout the whole 10k day (after I took care of the clients’ biz this a.m.). I was really happy out on the back verandah after supper typing away but it got really dark and I got a bit bleary-eyed so I knew it was time to pack it in 🙂

It’s a great feeling, eh? I’ve been so relaxed today sometimes I’ve been almost too lazy to write. It’s so precious (in this day and age) having a whole day of feeling relaxed while doing something we love.

Oh, it was so much fun to read all your updates. Congrats everyone!

Unfortunately I was running on three hours sleep yesterday. That led to only writing a quick few-line blog post and making my new blog background look the way I wanted it to 🙂 It took several hours, so at least I got that out of the way.
I now have two birthday lunches scheduled for the weekend… while I thought I’d have Saturday to enjoy some writing time, yesterday I got filled in with the new plans (one of the lunches got moved up to Saturday so there wouldn’t be two on Sunday).
*sigh* wish I didn’t have to go to either… Well, anyway, what I really wanted to say was:

I’m wishing everyone an amazing 10K Day for Saturday!

    Just starting now!

Got up rather late, and it does not look like it will be a very productive day 🙁

I have to take the kids shopping and to tenis, then in the evening I have to help a friend fix their central heating boiler.

I think I will be lucky to beat Wednesdays rather weak 2k.

    Still every little counts.

    Good luck, everyone.

Hi again everyone. I’ve written two pages. Writing in longhand is so much slower of course, but I’m open and curious about the process. I’m trying to be fully present to the experience, without putting any pressure on myself. Go slower and deeper…

Paula, that’s lovely that you are working on a balcony overlooking a blue-green sea. Sounds like you’re making great progress.

I’m working in our den, which is dark and cosy. The cat is in the corner, sulking because I won’t let her up on my lap.

Andrea, the dark and cosy den sounds like a writing womb.

Was curious about your spelling of “cosy” (my husband always teases me when I spell it the Aussie way, even though I’ve lived back in the States for 15 years) so I checked your profile. Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Uncanny! I was just saying to Brian *yesterday* seemingly apropos of nothing: “One place I really want to visit is Victoria in BC.”

I’ve been there once, when I was 12. Our ocean liner departed from Victoria when we moved from Great Falls, Montana to Australia.

Hi Milli. I hope you can come back to Victoria sometime for a visit. It’s a small, quaint city in a lovely setting. Easy access from Seattle – you just take the Clipper ferry…
