    Whoo! 10K day!

I’m currently riding the caffeine wave after having about six cups of coffee tonight and even though I’ve switched to caffeine free tea, I can already tell I’ll be up awhile writing. That works!

I’ve got lots to work on: journal entries, a short story with a deadline quickly approaching, a story that won’t get out of my head, and all my prep for NaNo, which is just over a week away. I wish I didn’t have to work and that I could stay home all day, glued to my laptop, but alas.

I’ll check in before I go, but so far I’m at 612.

    Good luck to all!

    -Laura

And I believe the caffeine crash has started. Ending with 1730 for the early, early morning. I’ll be back much later, hopefully well rested!

    Happy writing, everyone!

It is 9:47 am here. I will be starting my day around 10am.
And the best thing is : I manage to bring my whole French NaNoWriMo community with me !! We’ll be doing word wars all day !!
So that will help me stay on track and will probably boost my productivity, and force me to take breaks every 15 min, which is not bad…
Will let you know how it goes.

    Good morning!
Laura and Armelle, that sounds great – you go girls 😉

Like I said yesterday, today I’ll be resting my ankle and using that time to also write.
I’ll have next week off either way, so I’ll be doing more writing then.
Which is good so that I won’t put myself under pressure to reach 10K, since I already have a hard time sitting in one place since Sunday morning… but I’ll do my best to get as many blog posts done as possible.
Also there are work e-mails I have to answer, will probably catch up on comment replies, plus a few articles submitted for review which I’ll read and send feedback on.
All in all, it’s a good thing the Writing Angels granted me this (forced) day off!

    Happy writing everyone!

It’s 14:00 and I’m just waiting to get a house viewing out the way then I can start working on an MT article, still haven’t decided which one yet, and also prepping for NaNo, not that I’m doing it officially, just need to make some sort of progress.
Hi-five to all you guys already kicking word arse, keep up the good work 🙂

Moving like a tortoise today. Pinched nerve in my right arm so I have to mouse with my left hand, which is very slow and frustrating.

About to get started with my usual: coffee and journaling. We’ll see how the pinched nerve does while writing by hand.

Thanks, Jo. It’s very frustrating. It’s been going on for over two weeks. After two chiropractors and four adjustments (and more $$ than I had to spend on it), I’ve run out of ideas on what to try next. Except to mouse with my left hand, which is like the dark ages as far as getting anything done.

Just one more proof that mixing introverts and socializing is a bad idea 😉

The Chef and I were hurrying to catch the bus to go to a birthday party on the other side of town. It was really dark already and my leg slipped off the step (and bent right under me) as I was walking down.
I could walk on it that night, hurt a little; then I woke up at 5am Sunday morning crying from the pain… Well, truth be told, the crying was also from being super tired and having to deal with the pain on top of that.

Oh, that’s too bad, Estrella. I’m sorry that happened to you. I can definitely relate to the part about crying from being super tired (in my case, feeling drained from it going on for weeks) and having to deal with the pain on top of it. I’m glad you got to have the “silver lining” of an extra writing day. 🙂

Sorry you’re feeling drained from everything. Maybe that’s why your arm is still acting up. Your body’s way of telling you to slow down for a bit?

It goes a lot deeper than that. And I’m definitely listening to what my body is telling me. That’s where journaling is so great. Plus talking out loud to myself, I will admit. 😉

I was able to make it for 10k today afterall! I started at 10am and I have five pages done so far. It is a liitle after 11pm. I am happy with the progress so far,so good. I am working on my book based on my mother’s life. I am writing about when she met my father. They met at her job. She worked in the fresh flowers and candy department at the entrance of a department store. He was her co-workers boyfriend at the time! Sounds interesting. Doesn’t it?

Thanks, Kit. I’m spending part of my washed-out 10K Day looking at some spinal stretchers on Amazon. There are some simple ones that don’t cost a lot that look like they would give me some stretching that would feel good – and maybe that will help ease the pinched nerve. The chiropractor hasn’t been able to put a dent in it.

Good luck with the stretching. Hope your back will be OK. 🙂

  24. Kit
    October 24, 2012 | 2:55 PM

I am doing guided winging (if that makes any sense!). I made a list of scenes to explore and things I need to think about or decide with regard to my current novel, and I am writing until I run out of ideas, then going to that list to get my next topic. Most of the writing is actually backstory as story — characters doing stuff — but I’ve also been making lists and notes regarding options and new ideas. Everything is going in one file for now to make it easy to keep track of the word count. I’ll divvy it all up and put it where it belongs later this week.

Word count is now 5499 and it’s time for lunch!

(This chair is good for my back, but I think I will still need to make sure I stretch!)

I did it! My word count for today is 10,583. And I got a lot done — learned some important back story details about a main character. For anyone struggling to understand a character, I highly recommend an interview. I learned a lot by just asking him questions until he broke down and told me the whole story.

I’ll be interested to see how I’m feeling tonight and tomorrow. I used to go on sewing retreats with my quilting buddies. I’d get tons of sewing done, then come home and not work on anything for weeks. I hope I don’t have that problem with this!

Thanks, Milli, for hosting this, and to everyone else for checking in. Nice to feel like I’m not alone in my writing insanity. 🙂

I agree, interviews can pull stuff out of characters that might not otherwise get revealed. Your day of writing sounds like it would have been fascinating to observe.

Keep me posted re your experience with the aftermath part. I sincerely hope this isn’t one of those glut-followed-by-drought occasions for you. And I would love to hear how that goes for you.

Hi Laura. Welcome back for your second shift. 😀

Sorry to hear about your crazy day at work. Good idea to see a movie! Glad to hear it got the creativity flowing for you.

Wish I could stay up and write with you. I’m toddling off to bed now. Have fun with all those words you’ll be slammin’ down. 😉

    Hello all!

I’ve already almost beaten Wednesday’s words in just a few hours. Crazy! I’m at 3576 and hope to write some more tonight. I’m going out of town so I know I won’t hit 10K, but I’m already pretty far into it after just two hours. So yay for that. Here’s to hoping this continues to last through NaNo!

    Good luck to all!!!

    -Laura

And good luck with starting NaNoWriMo. 🙂
