WELCOME TO ALL those plucky writers who are participating this week!

This is the place to post your check-ins for Wed, Nov 20 and/or Saturday, Nov 23.

If you’re participating from overseas, feel free to start according to your own time zone. This check-in page is posted the day before the event so you can. 🙂

DON’T FORGET TO TAKE REGULAR BREAKS!

You’ll regret it later (when you’re feeling fried) if you don’t take regular breaks. Even if you’re on fire with your writing, take your scheduled breaks.

Every two hours is recommended. Breaks are also for posting check-ins.

WHAT SHOULD YOU POST FOR YOUR CHECK-INS?

TIP: If you don’t see your comment right away after posting, try refreshing your screen.

1. You can mention your word count if you want to. If you’d rather not, please comment about your progress thus far.

2. You can also describe what you’re working on.

3. Feel free to mention how you’re feeling and how the day is going for you.

4. It’s always fun to hear what people are drinking, snacking on or listening to.

DON’T FORGET TO log out of forums, Facebook, Twitter, email, etc.

Go gettum, Tigers! – Milli

Good morning from the South Coast of the UK, Sunny Saltdean to be exact.

It’s been a while since I did one of these awesome days and I’m extremely happy to be here as I find them so productive.

Coffee in hand, my daily schedule ahead and ideally I want to do the final edit on one chapter and finish a first draft of another.

I’m using the Pomodoro technique and EFT to keep me on track.

    Well, here I go!

    Hi everyone,
I’m in eastern Canada and have 650 words written so far with as I try and shake the cobwebs out of my brain with my first cup of coffee.

Looking forward to a fun and prolific 10K day. Happy writing to all 🙂

Checking in from frigid Saskatchewan. The -30 windchills are perfect for an indoor day of writing as there are no temptations to go outside unless I have to. I started the day with some journal writing and moved on to the first draft of a blog post. Then paused to write a to do list so I can stop worrying about forgetting things and just write. I estimate I am at about 1100 words so far today. Time to grab a cup of hot tea and a quick photo to go with the blog post before I pick up the pen again.

      Lori,

Thanks for joining us from Saskatchewan. I didn’t realize that’s where you live. I would love to have you do a blog post about Saskatchewan for Milliver’s Travels sometime if you think that would be fun.

1100 words sounds vigorous for early on a frigid day. And the To-Do list to empty your brain is very smart.

Enjoy your morning of writing. 🙂

Sitting here with the dregs of my coffee just chilling out a little before I start. I’ve got a list of things I want to work on (some minor, one major) but not yet. It’s been a very busy week and this is the first Me Moment I’ve had just to gather my thoughts.

second stretch was technical writing as I have a training presentation on Saturday. Another 500 words or so and an item off the to do list. Later today i’ll work on a longer training piece I need to present but next I want to work on a creative piece. Using the early break to mentally change gears.

I’ve had a pretty productive morning here. I’m up to 1721 words so far (journal writing and then a few freewrites in fictional characters’ POVs). To be continued for sure a bit later. Right now I gotta skidaddle and go meet an old friend for lunch who is in town for the day 🙂

Keep on truckin’ my writing buddies 🙂

Switched to the keyboard to develop a kernel of an idea for a new screenplay. The idea started out being a little trite but out of the blue I hit an amazing brainstorming zone where the story developed into something more unique.

Got 1,203 words of pure fun out of that, for a total of 2,203 so far. 😀 Feeling very happy with my day so far.

I’m going to take a break and have some breakfast.

I’m having a blast with the treatment for my screenplay. 4,111 words.

Off to take another break. I think I’ll take a shower (I’m still in my jammies – lost track of time today). A shower always stimulates the flow of ideas.

I got inot a piece of writing and lost the afternoon. It started off feeling forced since I have not stretched my creative muscles into fiction writing for quite a few months then moved into some fun writing where I didn’t want to stop to welcome the girls home from school. It will need much editing but it stretched the muscles. Since I write long hand all word counts are estimates sitting at around 2600 words for the day and an hour and a half left to write before the evening events take over.

    • Milli Thornton
      Twitter: millivrstravels
      November 20, 2013 | 4:55 PM

That sounds wonderful, Lori. 2600 longhand words is terrific! I love it when the inspiration and the fun takes over, even if you start off a bit stilted. That “can’t tear myself away” feeling is precious too. Best of luck with your remaining time today. 🙂

I made it to 5,055. It’s one of those fun-to-write stories where the word count comes so easy it almost feels like cheating. And it has made me very HUNGRY! Off to grab a snack. Back for more when I feel refreshed.

I just got back from my outing. My friend was 45 minutes late for our lunch date! I’ve known her since we were 17 and trust me, some things haven’t changed 😀 I got another 550 words written while waiting for her in the restaurant though(bringing my tally up to 2,271. Got stuck right in the thick of several waves of rush hour traffic all the way back home and I need to re-group and give my poor neglected kitty cat (not lol) some attention in front of a warm fire before getting more writing done.

    Hiya 🙂
Well, I had an interesting writing session on my laptop after dinner. I got the ‘blue screen of death’ and then managed to resurrect everything, but lost the bit that I started. Obviously the hard drive is on its last legs!

Anyway, I got my Nano file open again and typed away. So my total today is 3,522 words. I’m calling it a night. Going to have a nice glass of red wine and chillax by the fire with hubby 🙂

Glad you managed to recover from that event and write some more words. Awesome on the 3,522! I hope you have a warm glow from your word count today. xo

Enjoy your chill-out by the fire. I’m raising my tiny (I’m still writing) glass of red vino to you in a toast.

Feeling very satisfied with my experiences today so I’m going to quit now. At the Saturday 10K day I can open my screenwriting software and start the script. It’s been two years since I last wrote a screenplay so this has been a fabulous reawakening. 🙂

Hey everyone! This will be my first 10K day in over a year. I’ve missed this day devoted to everything I love and I’m excited to get started. I chose to work from Perkins today, my favorite writing spot this summer when the kids were home. The only thing I forgot to grab were earphones so I’m gonna see if my workout pair is in my car and then get started writing on a brand new project I’ve been toying with for a few years now, but never gave myself permission to pursue (too many other deadlines, etc.)

Anyway, I look forward to reading everyone’s updates when I return around 12:30 CST!!

    Good Morning Everyone 🙂

Can’t believe I slept in till 9 o’clock on the 10K Day. Guess I must’ve needed those extra zeds.

Brian has made me a cappuccino (Peachebean, I wish you were here so we could laugh about our manslaves :D) and I’m going to start with a bit of journaling while I wake up.

500 words of journaling and now I’m ready to switch to today’s special project. On Wednesday I wrote a treatment for a new script. Today I plan to open Movie Magic and start the script. But, first, some character development.

Today’s mission: It has to be fun. This script is for my own pleasure. No career ambitions are allowed to bog me down. 🙂

Internet is sort of not great here–which is great for a 10K day–but not so much for checking in 🙂 Anyway, I hit 2210 this first 2 hour period, so I’m doing okay. Hope to do twice that by 3pm CST and will chime in then again 🙂

I’m working on a gothic paranormal, very sexy haunting stuff based partly on the lyrics of Counting Bodies Like Sheep by A Perfect Circle–more of a vibe than a literal translation 🙂 I’m excited though about how this is already becoming a realized ‘world’ on paper. Very cool!

Okay, see y’all in about 2 hours!

Cool check-in, Jenny-Bug! I love the sound of your story, and the way it’s based on a vibe from a song. Very primal. The ‘realized world’ sounds delicious.

2210 for your first word count for your first 10K Day in a year is the cherry on top!

2,228 words of journaling + character development. Need to have a break just to come back to Earth. Jen-Bug, you inspired me to go listen to an amazing song and I went into ecstasy just from the music. Plus it gave me a terrific idea for one of my characters. Wow. I’ve had a gazillions volts of fun already!!

But it’s hard to focus on writing while I’m feeling THIS blissed-out. I’ll take a break and then keep just enough of this feeling to channel it into my writing. 🙂

    • Jenbug
      November 23, 2013 | 3:32 PM

So awesome, Millikins! I love using music and lyrics to inspire me. There’s something so tangible, sort of like there’s a direct route from sound to sensation and when you’re wanting to translate imagery to words, really feeling those words can help a ton, I believe.

Anyway, enjoy your bliss and congrats on having such a productive day!! 🙂

      Hugs,
      Jenbug 🙂

On a roll now! I’m at 5932, meaning I got 3722 written since I last checked in. I also stopped for lunch there for a bit. I’m about to stretch my legs and get a bit of a snack to make it through the next 2 hours. Also looking at leading men right now while on break and I’ve got a few guys picked out: Hugh Jackman, Charlie Hunnam, and Joe Magliano, maybe even Ian Somerhalder, oy! So many hotties to choose from! LOL!

Okay, off to write some more. Sooo loving this!! 🙂 Also am thinking of a title for this book, something like Moonlight at Midnight or Charlotte’s Moon or just plain old Moonlight. Never know! I’m sure one will jump up and grab me:)

    Hi Everyone!
I got a bit of a late start today as my husband had to watch Formula One qualifying in Brazil. Wouldn’t you know they had a rain storm so the last session was delayed for 40 minutes while I waited and waited for it to be over! However, I’m making good progress, taking breaks for donuts and tea (I know, bad, bad, bad) and throw laundry loads into the dryer. Will get a lot more done tonight, I’m sure. Good luck everyone! Keep going!

I’m on 4,539 and still haven’t cracked open my screenwriting software because of the way the character development took on like a wildfire. Plus there was an extra journaling session in my notebook to record a few emotional milestones. And I broke off another time to open a new document because a new screenplay idea was begging to be brainstormed before I lost the details.

Because of shoulder and neck problems that ended up pretty bad during Wed’s 10K, I’m taking a lot more breaks than usual today. So far this has helped. But I think I’ll still have to go back to the chiro on Monday.

Despite that bit of a hindrance I’m having a really happy day. It’s marvelous to be a writer when it’s this much fun!

I’ll check in soon, but with less than 1200 words to go, I’m pretty sure I’m gonna hit my goal!!

Millikins, soo cool that you’re having so much inspiration! I hope that your shoulder and such don’t hinder you too much 🙂

My whole day got interrupted and taken up by family so I’ve only managed to get 5,000 words, too tired right now. Am going to try this one day in the week when I’m less likely to be interrupted. Even though I’ve not achieved what I wanted it’s been a great exercise in achieving more focus. Looking forward to participating properly next month.

      Hi Sue,

Thanks for coming back to file a report. I’d say 5K is pretty decent for such an interrupted day. 🙂

We look forward to having you join us again in December. I’ve blocked off Wed the 11th and Saturday the 14th so we don’t end up too close to the holidays.

      See you then. ~ Milli

6,010 words and finished five pages of screenplay. Not as much actual writing on the script as I’d envisaged, but I’m happy. I’m going to knock off now and watch a movie with Brian. Combining Wednesday and Saturday I’ve racked up 13,451 so I’m not going to try to push it.

These have been two of my most favorite 10K Days ever. The fun has been off the scale. 🙂

Enjoy your night-writing, Valeka and Bev! I’ll watch for your updates on my Blackberry.

    G’nite all.

Finally got to get back to writing after the family jumped in! So I hit 10,368 and I feel great! After being away for so long, it’s been a true blessing to be able to get back into writing like this again. Now I only need 10 more days like this and I can finish this draft! LOL 🙂

Thanks so much to everyone who joined in. Millikins, I’m so stoked that you were able to write some of your screenplay today 🙂
Valeka and Valerie, it was awesome to hang out with you both!

    Warmly,
    Jenny:)
