WELCOME TO ALL those plucky writers who are participating this week!
This is the place to post your check-ins for Wed, Dec 11 and/or Saturday, Dec 14.
If you’re participating from overseas, feel free to start according to your own time zone. This check-in page is posted the day before the event so you can. 🙂
DON’T FORGET TO TAKE REGULAR BREAKS!
You’ll regret it later (when you’re feeling fried) if you don’t take regular breaks. Even if you’re on fire with your writing, take your scheduled breaks.
Every two hours is recommended. Breaks are also for posting check-ins.
WHAT SHOULD YOU POST FOR YOUR CHECK-INS?
TIP: If you don’t see your comment right away after posting, try refreshing your screen.
1. You can mention your word count if you want to. If you’d rather not, please comment about your progress thus far.
2. You can also describe what you’re working on.
3. Feel free to mention how you’re feeling and how the day is going for you.
4. It’s always fun to hear what people are drinking, snacking on or listening to.
DON’T FORGET TO log out of forums, Facebook, Twitter, email, etc.
Go gettum, Tigers! – Milli

🙂
I am ready Milli.. see you tomorrow.. !

Cecilia, I’m thrilled you’ll be here! Can’t wait to wish you Happy Birthday. 11 is a special number. 🙂
I’m here!…Sort of…I’m being distracted by a friends novella (love being an early reader). Going to go have a shower to extract my head and concentrate on my xmas market article and the treatment for my new novel, around going to work.
Hope everyone has a great day!

(((JO)))
I’m over the moon to see you back here with us. Excited to hear what happens with your 10K day.
XOXO
Good morning! It’s 827 a.m., and I am siting down to start the 10K Day. Slept in till 7:30. To excited to get to sleep last night, but I’m showered, dress and fed and ready to start the say.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Judith,
Welcome to your first 10K Day! I can relate to being kept awake by the anticipation of it all and then needing to sleep in. 7:30 is still a very decent time to be sitting down to it.

Hi Everyone!
Snow, snow and more snow here in cold Eastern Ontario, Canada. We most definitely will have a White Christmas this year 😀
I did some journaling/morning pages this morning with my first coffee and now have 525 words down. I’m working on a few short tasks for clients and then plan to return to some freewriting in a bit. I have appointments this afternoon so this 10k day is all about fitting in bouts of writing in between my to-ing and fro-ing 🙂
Happy writing, ladies!
Twitter: fearofwriting
Carole,
Was thinking of you yesterday and lots of snow came to mind. I hope you’re keeping warm! I’m glad you have a safer vehicle to run around in to client meetings.
Congrats on the journaling kick-off for your writing day. Good luck with your juggling act!

I refused to turn on the computer until I had written some journal/morning pages. From them, I got excited about a framework for my 2014 goals so I wrote my blog post for January 1 (now I just need to type it and remember to post it) My various scribblings should take me to approximately 1000 words using my average of 250 words per page of handwritting.
Not sure where I am going next though so expect to slow down a bit over the next hour.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Lori,
I love starting my 10K days with journaling. Not even turning on the computer until you’ve done so sounds right in line with the organic nature of journaling.
Very cool about what the journaling inspired you to feel and do.
My phone just told me that it’s time for a break. I’ve reread my first post, and it’s very embarrassing. Sorry about the typos. I’ll do better.
The first two hours have gone well, and I’ve written a little over two thousand words. Having a list of topics to write about has really helped. If I were working on a novel or a serious story, I’d be floundering by now, but with anecdotes from my life I already know the plot, so it’s easy to keep going.
I’m making a big effort to keep drinking. When I’ve done with this post I’ll do some stretches and move to my stand-up-and-type work station to give my back a break.
Hope everybody is feeling good and making progress. More later.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Judith,
Looks like your 10K Day plans are working well. And congrats on the 2,000 words so far! That sounds right on target.
Don’t worry about a few typos in your blog comments. Everybody here does that at various points. It fits with the 10K Day modus operandi: we’re not here to edit ourselves as we write (not even for our check-ins). 🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
Good Morning, Fabulous 10K Writers.
So happy to see all these familiar names and faces. Plus we have Judith, doing her first 10K Day (with 2,000 words already – go, Judith!).
Today I’ll be working on the 3rd edition of Fear of Writing. (Just realized it’s been 10 YEARS since the 2nd edition, so it’s high time.) There will be some writing for new sections I’m adding, but it will mostly be formatting. So I won’t be doing a word count today.
I’ve got my cappuccino and the sun is shining (though quite brrr-y out there). Very excited to work on my project! 😀
Good morning all. I have 5,047 words already. I am an early riser! After feeding the cows and walking my sick sheep and growling the chickens for hiding their eggs, and feeding my pigs, and talking to my daughter in melbourne i was able to being writing by 7.30. It has just finished snowing, the prairies are flat and white, the sun is coming out and the geese who can never decide which way to fly at this time of year are once again heading South. We are very cold. I cannot believe they are still even here. Am thoroughly enjoying being able to just write, I think it is all about giving oneself permission to just write and ignore the other work. Though I have changed chairs three times! Have a glorious day everyone, I shall pop back in when I reach 7,000, then it will be time to put my 17 layers back on and go outside to check the animals.. morning milli.. c
Wow! I want to eat whatever it is you had for breakfast! Enjoy your day and the beautiful snow.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Cecilia,
Welcome to your first 10K day! And congrats on the 5,047 words so far. I agree that giving ourselves permission to ignore everything else for an entire day (except for animals that need to be fed!) makes all the difference.
Next time you check in, I’d love to hear what you’re working on. Blog posts? Articles? Novel?
Happy Birthday for Dec 11! I hope your word count feels like a fun birthday prezzie. 😀
Working on my novel. Based on the year I spent living in a convent for bad girls when I was a teenager. It is a story that has been rolling about my head since then, needs to be told.. c
Twitter: fearofwriting
Wow. Sounds either cathartic or fun. Let us know when that gets published. I would love to read it!
Twitter: danapittman
Hola! I’m in from bible study. I plan to start writing by 2 pm CST. See you all soon. 🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
Dana. Woman. So glad you’re here.
XOXO

Thanks! 😉

wrote two more short pieces and a draft of our year end letter then headed off to the school for lunch with the students. There are always stories waiting to happen there. On returning visited with hubby over lunch and now am finally trying to settle back into the writing groove approximate word count for the day 1600 which is hopefully on track for my 5000 goal.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Lunch with students definitely sounds soaked in stories. 😀
Break time again. I have to admit I’m getting tired. I’ll drink some more water, eat some gorp, and lie down for 15 minutes. Somehow the check-in I did 2 hours ago didn’t get posted. Must have hit or not hit the right button.
It sounds like there is something to be said for NOT completely clearing the decks for the 10K day. Getting out and about sounds pretty good right about now.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Judith, I hope a lie-down and/or a walk in the cold winter’s air helped revive you. If not, you could try the shower trick. That always refreshes me in marvelous ways, plus my mind tends to work on things under the flow of water. With new ideas or solutions to storylines perking, by the time I get dried off I can barely wait to get back to it.
XO
Ok I have reached the 10,000 mark. A bit past it actually. Am actually surprised at how easy that was. An excellent lesson in goal setting. Thank you Milli. Now I really must go and do some dishes and sweep the floor then go out and do some farming, it is going to get really cold tonight and I need to have all my animals well bedded down with double rations for warm bellies. Then i will finish this chapter. And do some editing. Hopefully it is not too cold to go out for dinner tonight as it is my birthday, and we have an awfully long drive to civilisation.. then back!! c
Twitter: cjtreggett
Wow, Cecilia, that’s an incredible word count for one day.Congrats! Happy Birthday as well. Hope you have a fabulous time out celebrating. Love the premise for your novel-in-progress by the way. Cheers!
Twitter: fearofwriting
Whoop, whoop on the 10,000 words!! You have certainly earned a birthday dinner in town. Enjoy the rest of your birthday, Cecilia. I hope you will join us again in January. It’s been fun having you here. 🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
My project is going well; I feel very absorbed in it. Brain needs a break so I’m going to drink some water and make another cappuccino. Maybe walk outside into the brisk air for a few minutes.
Twitter: lorigg
time to stretch and grab something to snack on. Making progress on writing stories for my blog. Trying to capture stories of the season and writing about our traditions. Also did some character work on a pair of characters for a post card story I am planning for 2014. My word count is somewhere around 3200 won’t know for sure until it all gets typed.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Lori, congrats on the 3200 words so far, and your writing topics sound very fulfilling. Not sure what a post card story is. Care to share? 🙂
Twitter: lorigg
A post card story is a story that fits on the back of a post card or series of post cards. In my case, there are two characters who correspond with each other from opposite sides of the world. The story develops and is contained in their correspondence. I first did something like it in 2012 with a group of art bloggers. We created the art for the face of the postcard and filled in the story on the back. The results are on my blog under the post card challenge category: http://untroubled.org/lori/index.php?topic=PostCards That time I was given the country of inspiration at the start of the week so the story did not always flow but then life doesn’t always flow together as expected.
Twitter: fearofwriting
That process looks very creative and fun!
Twitter: cjtreggett
I’m checking in again after just getting home from appointments. I’ve managed to get up to 1927 words so far today, doing some free writing and the beginning of a short story that sprang up today. I’ve been editing a WIP but it’s slow going for the past week or so. I may work a little on that after a little tea break now.
I’m super distracted with the gazillion things I need to get done before Christmas eve, but wanting/trying to keep my writing time sacrosanct. I’m doing so-so with that 😀
Twitter: fearofwriting
Carole, sounds like you’re doing great considering you had all those client appointments. I hope you get to stay in for the rest of the afternoon and work on your precious stuff. Stay warm!
XO
Heading out for an early dinner in hopes that the cold night air will brighten me up. 6,000 wds so far.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Awesome on the 6,000 words! Enjoy your dinner.
Twitter: lorigg
Well I think I made my goal of 5000 words if not I came very close. I finished off the day with more articles for my blog and some speeches for Toastmasters in the new year. Now I just have to remember to edit everything in the coming weeks and not leave them fall to the bottom of the pile.
I am off to a hgh school band Christmas concert this evening. If I get a chance I’ll pop in on Saturday. That depends on the family plans.
Good writing to all who remain and all who pop in on Saturday.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Lori, congrats on the 5,000 words and for meeting your goals for the day. Enjoy that concert! Sounds like a great way to unwind after a day of writing.
See you on Saturday, if you do pop in. 🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
My project (third edition of Fear of Writing) is still going happily and I’m pleased with my progress so far. But I’ve come up against some puzzles to solve about how to place some new features into the existing book without disrupting certain elements. I feel the need for a shower and a protein snack before I tackle the puzzle.
Twitter: danapittman
I am still working. I did not work on my manuscript but some rather hefty outlining. I’m knocking on about 4k words. I’ve worked on: character journals, chapter summaries, character timeline, setting research and summaries.
I believe I’m going to work for another hour or so. I had a HUGE breakthrough in my plot. Yay!!!!
Don’t you just love 10k days.
Twitter: fearofwriting
YIPPEE for the plot breakthrough. And kudos on the 4K. You go, woman!
Twitter: danapittman
Thanks. Yesterday was extremely productive.
Twitter: dream_mancer
Ughhhh. I’m here. Because of my different work hours, this is the first time I’ve had a chance to sit down and write. I know I won’t hit 10K, but I’m going to write! Dang it!
It’s weird not starting at midnight, but I’m on a self-imposed cut-off at 11:00. So I’ve got about four hours to write all I can. Let’s see how this goes!
-Laura
Twitter: fearofwriting
Laura, you made it. I was starting to wonder where you were. Good luck with the four hours in hand. Knowing you, you’ll blitz it.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Just finished dinner (turkey green chile stew that I made ahead of time and Brian served it–perfect for a chilly winter’s night). I’m now indulging in a Lindor dark chocolate ball and I’m about to hit my third edition with renewed vigor. 🙂
I’m done. It’s 10 o’clock and time for bed. 7,235 words. Not too bad for a first go. Hope to write with you all again.
Twitter: fearofwriting
WHOO HOO! 7,235 words. I hope you enjoyed your first 10K Day. You did splendidly.
XO
Thank you so much Milli for having me over, i am a morning person so i am now yawning my head off and heading off to bed. this was a fantastic learning experience for me. I never for a minute thought I could write that many coherent words all in one go. And it even makes sense and is somewhat linear . i got so deep into the story.. you know what I mean. ok ni ni.. and thank you again.. c
Twitter: dream_mancer
Getting close to my cut-off at 11, but I hyperfocused and churned out much needed words. The end results is 6,143. I didn’t type as fast as I could have (should have had about a thousand more words) but I had plots to work through before I could make headway.
I’m super looking forward to Saturday. I can stay up later and write starting at midnight then! I definitely plan to hit 10K that day!
It’s good to be back!
-Laura
Twitter: fearofwriting
And it’s good to have you back! 6,143 sounds crazy-good to me considering your time limitations.
See you on Saturday, Laura. Glad to hear it will be better conditions for you that day.
Twitter: fearofwriting
It’s past 1 a.m. and I’m just finishing. I got on a roll with my project and did all the major additions. Now it’s a matter of finessing. Very happy with my progress!
Managed less than 2000 and had a migraine. Well done to everyone else. Am signing up for Saturday and hope to complete it then
Twitter: fearofwriting
Hi Sue,
Very sorry to hear about the migraine; those are miserable. We will look forward to having you with us on Saturday.

***** HERE’S WHERE SATURDAY’S 10K DAY STARTS *****
Just getting started. Good luck everyone.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Hi Sue,
Good to have you here. I hope your day of writing goes nicely.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Good Morning All,
Just getting my coffee then I’m going to dig in. Looking forward to it.
🙂
Twitter: fearofwriting
Didn’t get enough sleep last night and the words were starting to blur. Stopped to have a protein breakfast and hopefully that will perk me up.
Sorry to hear that, Milli… I had a late start to my day after sleeping in, but managed to find some crafts to do, and that perked me up – am now nearly finished with a blog post about them!
Twitter: fearofwriting
I did that for the Wednesday 10K Day–slept in till I was rested enough to focus–but this morning was one of those times I woke up too soon and couldn’t go back to sleep. And I really wanted to be sharp today. 🙁 I’ve got to do some accuracy work on my third edition.
I know the feeling… Hope you manage to get the work done! *cheering you on*
Hello there, how’s everyone’s day going?
Today, I’m unofficially participating in the 10K day 🙂
Mom came down with something by last night, and I’m not feeling too hot myself, so am taking things slow and only aiming to finish a few things I already started.
So far so good, I managed to finish a blog post for today (finishing touches on the pics, then it’ll be live) and will be working on another one for tomorrow.
Happy writing everyone!
Twitter: fearofwriting
(((Estrella)))
I hope you don’t come down with the bug. Good idea to take it easy and keep your goals pitched low. Congrats on your progress so far. 🙂
xo
Thanks, Milli! Of course, a little energy kick from a S’mores Hot Chocolate I drank a bit earlier also helped 😉
Twitter: fearofwriting
Sounds yummy! I just set up the utensils to make a second cappuccino. I have to finish the section I’m working on and then I’m allowed to go make coffee. 🙂
I like that idea – finishing something and only then being allowed to go for coffee or other treats.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Yay! I finished. (And it all fit in the three pages I allotted for it in the 3rd edition. Whew.) Now I can have cappuccino. 😀
How is yours going? And how are you feeling? I sense a touch of the bug myself and I’m about to go take some GSE.
Twitter: dream_mancer
Hello all!
Finally here and ready to write. I’ve got a lot to do! I plan on writing until around 4:30. Then I have someone coming over and then a dinner with my local writing group. After that, I should be back and hope to hit 10K today!
Good luck to all!
-Laura
Twitter: fearofwriting
Hi Laura! So pleased to see you made it. Sounds like a solid plan for your Saturday. With some touches of fun added to break it up. Enjoy!
Finished fiddling with the images, so the blog post I mentioned earlier is live now,
and I have also added around 500 words to one of the new blog posts I’ll be publishing in the following days.
Not sure how long I’ll stay at my laptop tonight as it’s past 9pm here, but I do need to reply to a few e-mails, and then I’m going to hand-write a long letter to someone (won’t do any word count there).
The way I felt/am feeling, just over 2K is better than I had hoped from today!
Hope you all have a wonderful rest of your day writing,
see you tomorrow!
Twitter: fearofwriting
Yay for 2K!! And goody for the published blog post. Enjoy that handwritten letter (I know you will :)).
XOXO
Thank you, Milli. I did enjoy writing the letter, came close to five pages. Might send it out in two “batches” 😛
Twitter: fearofwriting
Making good progress with my project, and not feeling so tired now either, thank goodness.
Twitter: dream_mancer
I’ve got to take a break to get ready for dinner, but I managed to get 3,082 on my story. It was a slow start as I tried to figure out how to take a scene, but once I figured it out, I’m chugging along.
I’ll be back after dinner to finish writing!
-Laura
Twitter: fearofwriting
Excellent on the 3,082 words. Glad you figured out how to approach that scene. Enjoy your dinner! I’ll be here for a long time yet so probably still here when you get back.
Twitter: fearofwriting
Laura, how did things turn out for you on Saturday night? Were you able to get back to your writing after the social event?
Twitter: fearofwriting
Still working. Going to take a break and see what’s for dinner.
Twitter: fearofwriting
I’m googly-eyed and still in my pajamas from this morning, but I finished the interior of the 3rd edition of Fear of Writing. Now all I have to do is proofread it and adjust the cover measurements for pages added.
Whew. So glad to have all that done. Next month I’ll be getting back to my screenwriting and the normal 10K Day stuff.
I managed 6,000 which wasn’t bad as family turned up. It has made me determined to try and increase my word count each day
Twitter: fearofwriting
Sue, that’s awesome about the 6,000 words on a day that family turned up to visit. So glad the 10K format is inspiring you for your daily word counts.
Hope to see you here in January!
Milli
Last night I wrote a nearly five page letter, and replied to all the e-mails in my inbox. Gotta love a clean inbox!
Doing much better today bug-wise, and have finished another two blog posts.
Looking forward to next month’s 10K Day!
Glad to read all the reports on how well all your 10K Days turned out, well done!
Twitter: fearofwriting
Estrella, sounds like you really cleared the decks! It’s SUCH a good feeling. So glad your bug is feeling better today. Mine is too. I took some heavy-duty stuff as soon as I felt it coming on and it hasn’t been too rugged so far.
Pleased to hear you’re looking forward to next month’s 10K Days. Me too!
XOXO
