WELCOME TO ALL those plucky writers who are participating this week!
This is the place to post your check-ins for Wed, Aug 16 and/or Saturday, Aug 19.
If you’re participating from overseas, feel free to start according to your own time zone. This check-in page is posted the day before the USA event for that special purpose. 🙂
DON’T FORGET TO TAKE REGULAR BREAKS!
You’ll regret it later (when you’re feeling fried) if you don’t take regular breaks. Even if you’re on fire with your writing, take your scheduled breaks.
Every two hours is recommended. Breaks are also for posting check-ins.
WHAT SHOULD YOU POST FOR YOUR CHECK-INS?
TIP: If you don’t see your comment right away after posting, try refreshing your screen.
1. You can mention your word count if you want to. If you’d rather not, please comment about your progress thus far.
2. You can also describe what you’re working on.
3. Feel free to mention how you’re feeling and how the day is going for you.
4. It’s always fun to hear what people are drinking, snacking on or listening to.
DON’T FORGET TO log out of forums, Facebook, Twitter, email, etc.
Go gettum, Tigers! – Jenny & Milli
Rise and shine! I’m at my desk getting “business” tasks done. I’ll start writing at 10:30. My goal is to hit 10k. Here we go…

Good Morning, Ja’nese. 🙂
Funny that you said “Rise and shine!” I didn’t wake up till 8:30. Felt good to get the extra rest but now my 10K day will start late. Wah!
Gotta go do my morning chores and make coffee and then I’ll start.

I did not RSVP because I did not know what my week might look like. I have carved out most of today to write. Yay! Taking a break for lunch now and figure I am at about 2800 words which includes journalling, two short essays (very short) and a start on a short story.
Twitter: millivrstravels
Awesome, Lori! 2,800 words already. I’m a bit jealous. My morning was swallowed up by other stuff so I’m just starting. Yay for you journaling, two short essays and that start on a short story.
By the way, feel free to RSVP any time with your desired intentions, even if you can’t pinpoint when you’ll show up. You’re a regular and I love having you here, so seeing your RSVPs is always a treat. 🙂

I know I will not be writing on Saturday as Hubby and I are celebrating our anniversary with hiking and photography that day. I was not sure I could carve out writing time at all this week but I am glad I did. I do look forward to these 10K days even though I have yet to hit the 10K mark in a day.
That’s great progress.

I’m finally here, with my coffee, ready to start. Yuck. Did not do good with my starting time today. Hope to do better on Saturday.
I’ll mostly be proofreading today. I’ve finished a non-fiction Kindle book, have gone through the editing stages and now I want to use my 10K days this month to get it ready to publish. I’ve got a few short chapters to write from scratch but the bulk of my work today will be proofreading.
Congrats!
I’m finally here! Jeff left for work half an hour ago, but I had to wash our dishes. I also did the dishes the fam left in the sink (I don’t always do theirs, but thought I’d be nice since Eric made me a berry smoothie), so that took extra time, as well.
I’m going to start with journaling today, then I’ll move on to freewriting and story planning. Yesterday, I started some freewriting in my McCabe Saga storyverse, and I plan to write a sequel to that today. Then I’ll work on some story planning, either for McCabe Saga or another series.
As for food and water, I already had lunch (sweet peas and diced chicken in Alfredo sauce) and tea. Jeff also gave me a little ice cream before he left. (Just a little. Too much makes me achy.) Now, I have Ozarka water. No music at the moment, but after I finish journaling, I might put on my Japanese playlist. 🙂
Twitter: millivrstravels
Hi Lois. Great to have you here! Your writing plans sound fun. Enjoy your journaling and freewriting/story planning. I’ll look forward to your check-ins.
P.S. I got a late start today too. So we’re buddies on that. 🙂
Well, I didn’t do any journaling after all. I did the freewrite, but only after I worked on some bios when I realized I no longer had them. At least not at the house. *headdesk*
Buddies to the end! *fistbump* 🙂
Japanese playlist? My son would love that. 🙂
I discovered Japanese pop and rock during a roleplay I did a few years ago…which featured the guy I’ve been writing about today! 😀

Glad you are here Lois, that lunch sounds delicious and your playlist has me curious.
Well, the playlist is more rock than anything. One OK Rock is considered “melodic rock,” but they definitely have some scream singing going on. I guess, if you don’t like that sort of thing, you’d have to listen to them on YouTube to find the ones that don’t have that. I don’t mind it because they’re not always doing it.
Baby Metal is a group of three girls who sing to heavy metal. Some of their songs are actually cute, and at least one is very melodic. And they have great singing voices.
Perfume is the “easy listening” group in the bunch. They’re more pop and dance style. My favorite song by them (so far) is Game, which you can find on YouTube. Game is the song featured in a video a friend of mine created during the roleplay I mentioned above that featured the character I wrote about today. If you want to see my character model for journalist extraordinaire, Dakota McCabe, look at this video: Tao Okamoto & Ben Hill for Kenneth Cole. 🙂
As for lunch, it was delish! I had some for dinner, too. 😉

Have made what feels like good progress so far. Don’t have a way to track it because it’s proofreading as well as formatting and moving things around.
Starving now. Gonna make some late lunch, feed the cat and then get back to it.
I’m not doing well with focusing. 🙂 I added a little under 2k on my novel. I journaled and wrote by hand this morning. I’d estimate about another 2k. I’m pausing to eat and I’ll get back to it shortly.
Twitter: lorigg
Hopefully your focus has improved.

Hey, Ja’Nese. How did you progress? Find your focus sweet spot yet? I’ve been all over the map myself but it feels good to have a day devoted to my own stuff!! Agreed? 😀
I found my sweet spot. I end the day at almost 8k. I wanted 10k but I’ll add to it tomorrow. I’m pleased with my progress. I’m almost done with the beginning of my novel. And THAT feels amazing.

My afternoon has progressed slower than my morning. I finished an easy read short story that I had been playing with ideas for earlier this summer. Good to move it from the idea pile to the ready to edit pile. Did some more work on the short story I started this morning and now trying to figure which idea to move onto next. All my writing is by hand. Using my normal estimates of words per page dependent on type of writing I would estimate I am at about 4900 words which is just shy of my 5k goal today. Still an hour or so before supper so I am hoping to surpass my goal.
Twitter: millivrstravels
Awesome about the 4900 words, Lori! Hope you got to use that hour before supper to exceed your goal for the day.

Hacking away, making progress. I didn’t work on the things I intended to work on, but I guess the order of it doesn’t matter. As long as it gets done!!
Gonna have a drink of cold water and check on the cat. Then come back to make more headway.
Well, my journaling plans got derailed, as they often do. No worries. I journal when I can. 🙂
I went in search of bios for the characters I’m currently writing about, but alas, they’re nowhere to be found. Which leads me to believe they’re up in our storage unit. So I started some new ones. The story’s changed a lot, so it’s probably a good thing anyway! I don’t have any word counts for those, since I use templates and fill in the details. There will be summaries at the end that will be wordier, but I haven’t gotten to those yet.
Then I moved on to the freewrite. It’s a sequel to something I wrote last night, so I had to read that over again and make a few fixes before beginning to write today’s. My final word count is 2,015. That’s nothing compared to my earlier 10K Day word counts, but I’ll take it! 🙂
Jeff will be home in about half an hour, so I’m going to unwind with some music before he arrives. (…which I never turned on today. Haha!)

It’s after midnight and I’m just finishing. Made excellent progress and I’m very happy. Didn’t get much proofreading done because of finessing other aspects of the book, but I’ve still got Saturday for that. Yay!
Twitter: millivrstravels
I’m late, I’m late, for a very. . . .
It’s 10:35 Arizona Time and I’m just getting started. The good news is, I’ve dealt with absolutely everything and shouldn’t be interrupted today (crosses fingers).
Anybody else out there? Happy Saturday 10K Day! 🙂
Twitter: millivrstravels
Making good progress (I’m formatting a Kindle book so I don’t have a word count).
Gonna stop now and have brunch. After that I can finally start on the next big phase: the proofreading.
Twitter: millivrstravels
It’s a little after 11pm and I’m finishing up for the day. Got the manuscript half proofread. I’ll probably continue working on it tomorrow. I’m motivated to get this part over with and get the book up on Kindle! 🙂
